Urgent Pls Help: School has lost DS Yr 11GCSE music Composition 1 and 2

Just this really - DS called to HD of Music yesterday and told that the school has lost the MP3 file of both compositions, which were due to be submitted to the exam board this week. DS did not have back up files. This is almost 2 yrs of work and contributes to 60% of the GCSE.
He is beyond panic now and his stress levels are stratospheric.
What can we do? Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

Contact the school. Demand that they have a forensic analysis if the computer it was stored on.

Then meet with he head teacher today (insist) to discuss how this can be approached with the exam board and wgat urgent assistance will be given to your DS to re-record the pieces. Presumably he had some notes etc of the compositions?

Eek... It's worth 30% by the way.... Does he have any notes, annotations etc? If it's the school's fault id expect them to clarify with the exam board. Has the work been marked and moderated - I guess it has by now. If it was recorded at school and put onto school computer the IT folk should be able to retrieve a back up.

Were they ever printed for performance?

Incredibly stupid not to have a backup. Would probably have at least 2 backups in different places!

Given that this is two years work, surely there must be some save somewhere even if it is not the final version. When DS did his compositions they used sibelius software, which would have to save to either the computer or the DCs account after each session. So if he composed electronically there should be a save connected to the programme somewhere, even if the school have lost the mp3 he created from it (unless he input two years work in one sitting and created his mp3 without ever hitting the save button!)
If he composed on his instrument then surely he has a written copy of his notes, in which case he can either rerecord it, or see if the exam board will accept the manuscript under the circumstances.

Firstly the exam board deadline is 15th May. Although it is panic time, it isn't as stressful as finding out the day before.
What sort of compositions are they? Sibelius, there should be a back up somewhere. Recordings of him and others playing? Could these be re-created if he was given time to do it? In this case, normally they would be pulled off timetable to do it. What exam board is it
Years ago, our studio computer crashed with most of our tech recordings and a few compositions on it. Nothing was retreivable, even with back ups, so we spent hours and hours writing up special consideration paperwork and then they accepted the mark we would have given it and moderated in line with the rest of the work, e.g. None of our marks were changed so this wasn't either, if we'd been marking too generously it would have been downgraded.
I would ring/email head of music as well as the head. If the head is out of school, then it might not get picked up quickly.

This doesn;t make any sense. If the school has lost this, it wouldn't be your DS's problem, it would be between the school and the exam board.

How did he send the files in?
