Boys Secondary School for the Sporty!

Hi All
I have absolutely no idea when it comes to secondary schools!!

My son is currently in Year 3 and is very sporty. Can anyone help with which secondary schools are more sport orientated in SW London. We are in SW19. I am looking now because I also do not know when they can move (e.g. moving before the end of Year 6 at his current school etc.) There seem to be different ages to move into different schools and exams to get in, I'm very confused!!!

I would like to know about state and independent but probably more likely to go independent.

Many thanks in advance

B

Boys boarding schools are year 9 entry. Others are entry at 11, or 13, depending upon the school. Look at something like the Good Schools Guide for ideas and information. The entry criteria are all different so you need to look at each school. State is at 11 but you would need to see what schools actually serve your area by looking at your council's list of schools which should include Local Authority schools, Acadamies and Free Schools. You can get the prospectuses of the independent schools to check on how sporty they are, what facilities they have and what teams they run. Many state schools are less sporty, but not all.

In South London, the obvious choice is Dulwich College.

If you're prepared to look a bit further out, then Whitgift.

Why not also consider the other SW London schools too?

St Paul's
Westminster
Hampton
Kingston Grammar
Tiffin Boys
Latymer Upper
Alleyns
Harrodian
Ibstock Place

You can look at all the fixtures for football and other sports and see which schools are active and do well. Google or try these links to get an idea:

Tbh all the indies will have good sports departments, that's part of what you pay for. As you're in Wimbledon what about King's?

Whitgift is known for being particularly sporty, especially the more niche sports like pentathlon, golf, hockey etc... as well as the usual rugby, football, cricket....he could start in Y6.
