Where in Manchester? Glossop isn't in Manchester.

SophyStantonLacy · 15/04/2015 08:19

Glossop is not any where near South Manchester.

Are you renting or buying?

momtothree · 15/04/2015 08:25

DH will be based in mancester but mainly on the road - looking at outskirts as think the kids will be happier - rent first then buy when settled maybe unless real deal is found.

Grammar schools in Trafford of interest to you?

I wouldn't fancy the glossop-Manchester commute personally

SophyStantonLacy · 15/04/2015 08:39

Bit of a gamble moving for grammar schools when you have missed admission points for both children though?

momtothree · 15/04/2015 08:51

Not considered grammars bright enough i think but not worth the risk?

There are lots of areas closer to city that don't feel inner-city at all if that's what's bothering you. Granted, nowhere that feels seaside, but plenty of semi-rural locations and nice suburbs that still give easy access to city centre.

Didsbury is top suburb for people wanting to be close to city (6 miles).

Hale/Bowdon slightly further, but gets you into Trafford for grammar school system.

Cheadle, Poynton, Woodford technically Cheshire, easy access to countryside. Good schools. From there you could consider Wilmslow, Alderly - lovely, bit pricey but you feel right out of the city if that's what you want.

Don't know how far out you are looking, but Holmes Chapel meets the needs for good secondary and primary plus good motorway access. Also train station to get into Manchester as well. Wilmslow and Knutsford both nice small towns as well - wilmslow with better performing school I believe.
