Challenging Teacher's Controlled Assessment Mark GCSE

Advice please on creative writing piece- sorry not sure what exactly called. Expected higher grade based on course work and previous exams. However got new teacher this year where clearly personality clash. Assessment marked down with comments that seem to relate to style eg "overly metaphorical" when had been taught to include metaphor, similes etc to get more marks!

Asked school for explanation but fobbed off with loads of technical data and nothing specific about reasons for marks. Refused a meeting to discuss. How can this be approached please?

Clav you really aren't listening to anyone are you? What experience do you have, as you have been asked and have not answered.
Have your children been through GCSE yet?
Please share your wealth of experience with all us lowly teachers who appear to know nothing ....

My DC is still year 10. When I say coursework I mean been homework and also class work which has included practice assessments under exam conditions.

I did send a long email to the school asking (politely) for a meeting and explanation of the marks. They first tried to avoid me by speaking to my DC asking why he was complaining. I didn't like this as felt it was exerting pressure on my son. This where told he was overly metaphorical. When I followed this up with a call, was fobbed off with vague reply and refusal of meeting.

All I want is a clear explanation from school. If they would explain to me the errors that lost marks, i would happily accept. However as I said before My Dc has not yet been given any clear reasons.

There are lots of teaching changes in the school as recently many of the better teachers have been moved over to the linked academy school to help improve their results. I am not sure if this lack of continuity contributes at all to the problems we are having.

Basically a CA is like an exam. If you take a real Exam you don't get the paper back generally, just a grade, no feedback.

This is impossible because of the exam board rules.

I think you need to give the school a break here. There is no way they can give you what you want. Surely it is best to put this particular controlled assessment behind you and concentrate on the next one. Your son has already been given all the feedback he's able to get.
