As level changes

I know that this has been done to death but DH and I are having a massive "discussion" about this

This is going to be a specific example for 2015

Ds will be taking history a level...this is a 2 year linear course and does not have an AS level component, so any exams at the end of year one will be a mock

Have we got that right?

Ds will also be taking geography a level....this is not linear yet and therefore has an AS component, so in theory he could drop this after year one and still have a qualification

Have we got that right?

This is the bit we are "debating"

If ds does not drop geography and goes on to take it as an A level, does his AS level result count as 50% of his A level because he is doing it in 2015 and it's the non linear route

I think that from 2015 that as levels do not count as 50% of A levels, DH believes that it does

It's not a biggie as we will still remain married...but we are reading the same websites and interpreting them differently Grin

Hope someone...or rather lots of you can help Smile

I think the geography is as it is now - AS forms 50% of final A level mark.
History, the school may decide to still do the AS exam as a standalone exam but it won't be part of the A level and he will effectively sit the AS content at the end of sixth form as part of the A level terminal exam.

Geography for current year 11 will continue to be AS counting 50% and A2 counting 50%. The current year 10 will be on new system for geography. History is on new system for current year 11. It is a stupid system of phasing in over a three year period, unless Labour get in and the changes are abolished.

Thanks titchy

May well have to hide the thread from DH Grin

The 6th form colleges round are way have decided that they will do AS exams at the end of y12 even for the new linear courses, for the courses starting 2015 at least.

This means the pupils can still decide what to drop after the first year exams and know they have a qualification for whatever they drop.

It also means that if the new govt does a u turn they haven't made changes only having to change back again.
