Schools in Wokingham

Hi everyone,

I'm a writer for the getreading and getwokingham news websites. I'm currently looking into school funding and found out that schools in Wokingham are on average the worst off in the country.

On average schools get £4,158 per pupil, compared to some of the best funded schools in England receiving £6,297 per pupil.

Some schools have had to lay off staff as a result of less money and are worried about the impact it will have on children's education.

What are people's views on this? What concerns do you have about the state of affairs and what do you think should be done?

Cheers,
Rahul

Hmmm. Wokingham appears to have the least government funding in many respects but it's an affluent area. I believe Wokingham has one of the biggest (if not the biggest?) attainment gaps in the country, as far as I know this hasn't been addressed at all and sadly I think the lack of funding will let down those children who need more help even further.
The more able children, or those who can afford tutors will be fine as always. Wokingham is affluent but it really lets down the poorer residents and hides the problems rather than having active strategies in place e.g. to bridge the attainment gap. It's really not on for one of the supposed "best places to live in Britain".
