Admissions mistake?

Wondering if anyone can help- thinking of appealing for first choice school and think there may be an error in the admissions criteria. Can I appeal on this if I didn't realise until now or should I have noticed before I applied?

If the admission arrangements are in breach of the Admissions Code you can use that as the basis for an appeal. However that will only get you a place if the panel agree that the admission arrangements are wrong and that the error has cost your child a place. If your child would not have got a place even if the admission arrangements were correct this error won't help you.

What do you think is wrong with the admission arrangements?

Thanks prh47 - wary of revealing too many details at the minute as may out myself and school concerned. Part of the admissions code states the criteria must be fair and transparent - does this mean they should be explained in the admissions document from the school?
If I spot an issue that may affect other parents too, do I need to bring it up at stage 1 for a group appeal or can I keep it to myself until our personal appeal?

Wouldn't be anything to do with sixth form arrangements, would it?

Thank you - I read in a book from the library that you could keep it to stage 2 but thought this was wrong.

Is there any merit in approaching the school now to question this or should I wait until appeal?

Thank you that's very interesting. If it's wrong, it would potentially affect a lot of children so if I write to the school directly will this cause them to reassess everyones case or just mine?

It's not a noticeable mistake unless you question the criteria the school used to decide on grouping for admissions then it is wrong.

One of the admissions criteria relates to schools you attend now - these are grouped according to criteria which are not accurate.

You don't need to ask. If you PM me I will be happy to give an opinion.

Tiggytape has given good advice. If the admission criteria are wrong the appeal panel will have to figure out (or get the school to figure out) who should have been admitted. If that leaves more successful appeals than the panel think the school can handle they then have to compare cases to figure out who is the most deserving. They will not simply use the admission criteria. You therefore need to have a good case as to why your child will be disadvantaged if they don't get a place at this school.
