Hi there my daughter has managed to get a boarding place at this school which is great, however I think we are going to need a bursary to help with the school fees does anyone know if this is possible at all as I would hate to go ahead and ask when it's not even an option.

I know Gordons through friends whose dc have been there, they say they think bursaries are only available to enable a child to stay if there is something like job loss etc during the childs time at the school, but this info could be out of date as their last dc went through a couple of years ago. Advice is to contact the schools bursar and have a chat if the info isn't in prospectus or info pack they say school send out, hope that helps.

Google tells me its a state boarding school. The Only fees are therefore for the boarding element and so unless there are extenuating circumstances eg military families I can't see why/ how you could expect to get help with what is basically your child's food and accommodation, which could of course be provided by them living at home and being schooled locally ,

Or am I looking at the wrong school ?

Theas, you have correct school, is state boarding, very sought after locally as has an independent school feel to it but to get a day place you hsve to virtually live on the door step, they normally get about 5 times over applicants.
As you say though, as the fees are drastically reduced in comparison to normal boarding, think there has to be miltary or something like clergy connection to gain any other assistance

Just googled the boarding charges for you, it says under 'bursaries' to email the bursar at the school with enquiries.
Bit surprised that you haven't spoken to them already as you have been looking at school for a while and theres a £1,000 deposit on acceptance.
Currently going through bursary application at an indie for ds and the conversation was the first one to be had.

fees are £4942 a term for full boarding, so similar to day prep school fees in the area.

I've just looked at the fees for a private boarding school in Surrey and the accommodation part of the bill was just over £6k.

As places in state boarding are generally oversubscribed (heavily used by Forces families) and you usually have to show a need for boarding, is it something your employer can help with (assuming need is work related) or if from home circumstances, are there any grant-giving charities connected to such circumstances?

Have you spoken to the bursar at the school about any awards they may be able to offer?

And when's the deadline for putting down the boarding deposit?

I applied last year for gordons but wasn't successful did you know that you can claim the childcare component of child tax credits to pay for the fees ?. Amazing but true so could claim around £100 pw towards the fees. Which might help .

Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether someone could tell me whether St George's Weybridge is more or less academic than the Gordon School in Woking.

I have visited the Gordon School and it seems to be pretty academic but I was wondering whether St George's Weybridge would be better suited to my son who is strong in maths but has mild dyslexia. He has been offered a bed at the Gordon School for boarding.

What are your views of both schools in terms of pastoral care, provision for mild dyslexia and academics/results?

Many thanks and best wishes,

Emilie
