Coloma & St Philomena's

Anyone applied this year to Coloma. Friends from my dc's old primary school said that that some had put St Phil's, Sutton as their 1st choice but got Coloma (which was their 2nd choice) and vice versa.

Has anyone else had anything like this?

(Laughs hysterically at the thought that Coloma and St Phil's might be choosing by distance criteria.....) Sorry. As you were.

Tiggy - yes, your reply was absolutely spot on for any normal school.........I was not laughing at you, you understand! Smile

I think it's strange as Coloma and St Phil's take girls from far and wide as it is about faith. This year, friend that got Coloma (who put phils 1st), was 300 yards further than other friend who got phils. So, it could be down to distance which means that only 'top' faith into both schools.

For Coloma (this is totally anecdotal) the tie breakers seem to be age at baptism (in days, not weeks), recorded % attendance at mass, and then service record (ie as an altar girl). I've never heard of them going to distance..........and I know of three baptised catholic girls with church attendance records who did not get in....

I'm sure a bit of selection must go on, as well as faith criteria as they all seem super bright. Certainly the cohort in my friend's DDs year are. Surely there are catholic kids that struggle at school, they can't all be academic. I've often puzzled about this. Can't all be down to the teaching, as they seem to be bright when they arrive, all of them!!
