Hi,
My DS has got through Habs, Merchant Taylor's, CLS,.
My DS has got an academic scholarship( though marginal) for CLS.
We are looking to relocate to London. Please can anyone advice on which school to choose. We have to make a decision by 4th march.

I would say go for Habs, but I am biased.

If Merchant Taylors is going to be doable, you'd probably need to live on the Met line.

If Habs is going to be doable, then you'd need to live somewhere that the coaches go to. You could ask the school for an up to date list.

I have no idea about the commute to CLS.

My journey to Habs was 1 hour door-to-door (including coach journey) which was fine, if tiring. I wouldn't have wanted my school commute to be any longer than that.

I think MTS might have a coach service too, although fewer routes than Habs.

  1. The good thing about CLS is that - being in the City - it is easily accessible from a number of locations in London.
  2. How sporty is your son? CLS is good for indoor sports (eg swimming, water polo) and has playing fields for football and cricket but if your son wants to charge up and down sports fields playing rugby then it is the wrong choice.
  3. CLS is a very good school of course - no personal knowledge of the others except friends who have really liked Habs as well.

Given they are all good schools, the issue is which one is the best fit for your child?

Which one has the ethos/atmosphere which you felt most comfortable with/

Hi. Could anyone tell me.

I'm moving to Ivinghoe beds border.
Can my daughter be considered for a place at chesham grammer .
She will be going into year 9

steppeinginto2015 · 22/02/2015 23:24

Junemayf - you need to go on to the school's website and see what their admissions policy is for in year admissions.

There is usually and entrance exam/test. But they may not have any places, so even if she passes the best may be a place on the waiting list

Can't comment about Habs, but I prefer the independence, excitement and freedom that City brings compared to MTS.

Thanks all for your much appreciated comments.
If there were a choice between QE boys, and all the above mentioned independent school what would you recommend?

Please share your experiences.
Thanks in advance.
