Notice period regarding uniform changes?

DD's school sent a letter out on Friday (dated 13th Feb and posted on the school website so I know it's not been festering in her bag for weeks) stating that when they return to school following the half term holiday all students will be expected to wear ties.

School are kindly providing 1 tie each, which is brilliant and will be handing them out on Monday morning

However, regulation school uniform shirts have always been the revere necked ones (like these which can't be worn with a tie.

Is there supposed to be a reasonable notice period regarding uniform changes? It's an academy (who actually promised when they took over there'd be no more changes to uniform Hmm) if that makes a difference.

In the long run, I'm actually happy with the change in shirts, I live in the arse end of nowhere so have to order the revere neck ones, whereas I can get the normal collared ones fairly cheaply in Matalan/Sainsbury's, but I only bought her a whole load of new shirts at Christmas so not overly happy at having to buy another load so soon

Wow. So much incompetence and unreason from the school.
I'd go with the other parents and send your DD in wearing her normal shirt - that way you will collectively be making the point that the school has cocked up big time.

My DDs' secondary introduced a new uniform (blazers/ties) two years ago but it was only mandatory for new pupils coming into the school - older students could carry on wearing the old uniform until they left or until they needed replacements, at which point they could buy the new uniform. Two years down the line everyone is in the new uniform with no waste of perfectly wearable clothes.

Stick with the current shirts until they have been grown out of or suffered too much wear & tear to be used. They will look terrible with the shirts but that is not your problem.

The school should have introduced this as a slow-phased switch to the different shirt style to be worn with a tie, asking all parents to only buy button-collar shirts from now on.

When my school changed shirt style the old version was allowed for a decade to allow for families who relied on hand-me-downs and 2nd hand. Old version didn't get banned till the school second hand uniform shop was full of the new style in every possible size.
