In year appeal

DS2 is in year 9. We requested a transfer to the school that DD attends but his year group is full. Now we need to apply. Apart from being closer to home and his having a sibling at the school, please do you know what arguments would carry weight?

It does need to be about what the school can deliver which current school cannot. So would that allow him to go to clubs that he cannot do now as he is too far away. Are there any subjects that the school is strong in or current school does not do? Is one school larger or smaller which can be used to improve the reasons for admission.
I would always throw in as another argument that by living closer to the school he will be able to form better friendship bonds with other local children. It is not a strong argument but should be said anyway.
You do also need to understand that there is a possibility that no matter how strong your argument for admission, the strength of the argument not to admit will be so high that the admission appeal panel will not admit. That is why it is important to try and knock holes in the school case not to admit in part 1 of any appeal. If you can reduce the strength of the argument not to admit, then you are lowering the bar that your arguments have to reach for admission to be allowed.

Thank you, admission. I have had two successful appeals in the past. Don't want to spoil my record. Wink
