My first choice is RGS. Its a brilliant school. I honestly could praise that school for a looong time. They know exactly what to do when to do n how. Very impressive. Most boys i know they are so well behaved. Nevertheless, RBCS is also good. They hv good grounds for sports. They hv school bus but it is the distance. decisions decisions.....

Kay34 · 30/01/2015 17:21

We received an offer too. Can we join the club?

sazzy5 · 30/01/2015 17:50

Kay34 you too well done! I really like the feel of Salesian but my DS is keen on RGS. We aren't making any decisions until we have a letter from all 3 schools. I am just so relieved to have some positive news.

fullsuspension · 30/01/2015 18:42

Got a yes too. Delighted and a bit surprised, but mainly delighted.

Well done all

Kay34 · 30/01/2015 18:58

Pleased for you full suspension. Sometimes they surprise you!

Mumtogremlins · 31/01/2015 20:54

My DS got a yes from Salesian too but still the wait for RGS. He got the top 20% at Salesian so keeping everything crossed for RGS. I'm really not sure about Salesian as we are not Catholic and it seems quite religious. What do others think?

Kay34 · 01/02/2015 07:33

Mumtogremlins we also had a lovely certificate yesterday. I think its part of the plan to win around the undecided.

We like Salesian for its sport. We have also taken into account that at Salesian DS would probably be near the top, with the credit and rewards which that would bring which would be good for self esteem. We do not really know, with the other academic school, where he would be but we imagine there would be less credit because there are so many other good candidates.

We are not religious. It's not what We would have preferred but not enough to rule it out completely. I read in the Diocesan report on its web site that on 40% of pupils were Catholic and 33% staff Catholic. 2010. This makes me feel that it must not be an issue.

Mumtogremlins · 01/02/2015 08:16

I wondered what the point of the certificate was! I'm not sure what would be best for DS - he is used to being near top of his class now.
I didn't really get any feel for the sport when we went there - why is it good? The only info we got was that you have to walk to the playing fields.

Kay34 · 01/02/2015 09:07

For us they play football, cricket and swim and do very well at each. They also play rugby well but that would be new to us.

It's a dilemma.

Wellington15 · 01/02/2015 09:44

We had a Certificate too! Looks like they have 10%, 20%, 25% and so on.....Its a good school but still very keen in RGS

sazzy5 · 01/02/2015 09:59

We got a certificate too, lol. I liked the school and am impressed with the standard of results considering the much more varied intake. It's not hard for RGS to get the results they do. Salesian came across as very sporty which is why it is a strong contender for us. We have some thinking to do too it's not easy at all!

Mumtogremlins · 01/02/2015 10:19

We've also got St George's to think about but know least about Salesian. It is our closest school though which would be better for DS. He's not sporty at all, apart from swimming, so that's not a main consideration for us.Salesians results do seem very good though at gcse, not as good at a-level

Flyingmum23 · 27/02/2016 18:07

I am considering Salesian for my son and will go to see the school in May. I am worried the class size is 25 and I am not sure if there are enough kids going there from Guildford. The A level results seem to be off track from the achievements at GCSE level. Do parents move their kids at 16 for sixth form? It is excellent value for money school I gathered..

Flyingmum23 · 27/02/2016 18:11

Mumtogremlins, A levels at St Georges are also not good compared to GCSE. If these are the kids taking the exams why the difference? I know familiies moving their kids from St Georges at 16 to go to Godalming College.

artdevivre · 21/09/2019 17:10

Hi all, I read all your comments with interest since we are planning to move to Farnborough next year.
Would you be so kind to share any experiences on the schools your sons got into? I was quite keen on Salesians, however I don't seam to find any parents reviews on this site...
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated :-)
