I just thought I'd get us started up again!

Hyper stressed daughter today. Doing a practical that counts for a fair chunk of the real marks & apparently the outcome all depends on picking the right spinach leaf. Confused

Well done to the offspring of circular, fairenuff and Mindgone.

Horsemad · 28/01/2015 13:38

Had a lovely day at M'cr, the uni & dept had a really nice feel to it. DS not saying anything about it, so will see what happens if they make him an offer.

Well done for all the latest offers! Mindgone, where is the medicine offer for?

HocusUcas · 28/01/2015 13:50

May the power of all green leafy vegetables be with her , Littleham.

Mindgone · 28/01/2015 15:03

Thanks everyone! Hope the practical goes well Littleham!
Horsemad, it's for Leicester.

Thanks Hocus and Mindgone. Grin She picked a good dry leaf and the experiment went very well. Apparently the wet leaves were a disaster! Thank goodness for that. Just the 'write up' to go, which is a bit easier to prepare for.

Does anyone else have feelings of impending doom? Especially for May / June.

Horsemad · 28/01/2015 15:45

YES! Hmm

Glad your DDs practical went well Littleham - presume it was Biology.
And also Mumslifes' DD with the EPQ. Sounds very stressful. Hope she's not too poorly.

Not so great A2 music practical mock here, very unprepared accompanist. Considering not using schools person for the real thing, hoping not all local schools have them on same date.

Littleham · 28/01/2015 18:19

Oh dear circular what a shame. At least it happened at the mock, not the real thing. Hope it hasn't knocked her confidence.

Yes it was a Biology practical (she kept her options open at A Levels until she decided what to study, but it is her least favourite subject).

EPQ is really useful for university, but a total pain at the time. DD's EPQ teacher didn't turn up again (for the sixth time) so she is pretty much going it alone. Any advice appreciated. You are so lucky to have it over and done with mumslife.

circular · 28/01/2015 18:53

Thanks Littleham. Her confidence fine, upset and annoyed though. My sanity not great, as another thing for her to organise lol.

Also DD just said Physics practical went better than expected (weakest subject) but did make a careless calculation error that she carried through to the results, so not sure how many marks that will cost her.

Just thinking, we have 3 months until firm and insurance need deciding. Bet that will fly by.
Not sure about the sense of dread, trying to stay positive but definitely feel a sense of indecisiveness.

Horsemad · 28/01/2015 18:54

Well done on the practical and the EPQ, Littleham & mumslife Smile

DS has an offer from M'cr! Grin don't know what it is yet as Track hasn't updated. Grrr! If they match his Nott'm offer, he said he'll insure them.

Leeds2 · 28/01/2015 19:00

Well done to your DS, Horsemad.

Can I ask those of you whose DC have done the EPQ whether you/your DC are glad they made that decision? DD will shortly have to decide whether she wants to do one, and I remain undecided!

Mindgone · 28/01/2015 19:19

Brilliant news Horsemad! Well done to your DS :)

Track updated 10mins ago - his offer is AAA, all in now so looks like he'll firm Soton and insure Nott'm although I've told him to do nothing for a few days and to mull them all over.

Littleham · 28/01/2015 19:46

Great that he knows what to do now - good idea to wait before the final decision as they sometimes change their minds.

Leeds2 - my daughter at university was glad she had done the EPQ as it has really helped.

Mindgone · 28/01/2015 20:12

Horsemad, great news! Would he go on any post offer days first, just to be sure? No hurry yet.

Leeds2 · 28/01/2015 20:33

Littleham, did your DD do 3 A2s and an EPQ, or 4 A2s and an EPQ? Just trying to get some idea as to what is realistic. DD's school don't seem very clued up about EPQs, and I am not sure if that is because they just aren't up to date, or if they are, in reality, not recommending them. Personally think they sound like a good idea!

Was your DD's EPQ relevant to her degree subject?

Sorry for slightly derailing the thread!

circular · 28/01/2015 21:41

Is there any advantage in rushing to firm and insure?

Leeds my dd did 3 A2s and an EPQ. She did hers on a subject that she will be studying at uni. It wasn't too much extra work but she did it early to get it out of the way.

For her it was well worth it because she got an offer from her top choice uni of AAB but they said they would reduce it to ABB if she got an A in her EPQ.

However, they were they only one out of five that offered to reduce the grade. The other four didn't even mention it so it might be worth checking first with the unis your dd is thinking of going to.
