Great news Fairenuff! It's nice to have a first choice in the bag.

Thanks everyone for all the student finance info. , much appreciated.

MrsBartlet · 19/01/2015 19:17

Good news, fairenuff!

ryansbeat · 19/01/2015 19:21

That's great news Fairenuff, good to have her first choice. Still waiting here for Durham and I have an awful feeling it may well be a long wait.

Horsemad · 19/01/2015 19:24

Hey Fairenuff, that's brilliant! DS is firming Soton too (needs AAB).

Leeds2 · 19/01/2015 19:25

Great news, Fairienuff.

Fairenuff · 19/01/2015 19:33

Thanks everyone Smile

Littleham she is just waiting to hear from Bristol now. Thanks for the links and advice re finance, that will be the next thing to get our heads round.

bobs123 · 19/01/2015 19:55

I think DD will be firming Soton too. She's had offers for 2 courses there - AAA and AAB. Having said that she still has Newcastle to look round in a couple of weeks so it could all change...Confused

hellsbells99 · 19/01/2015 22:13

I think student finance opens on the 26th January looking at an email DD has received from Manchester university.

HasSOsm97 · 20/01/2015 17:13

Thanks littleham and hellsbells99 for info on SF,
Well done to fairenuff DD :)
My DD received a offer from durham yesterday! So that's four offers! And one rejection cambridge! She can make a decision now! Hopefully!

HocusUcas · 20/01/2015 17:19

HasSOsm

That's fantastic news about Durham - I bet that's put a smile on her face !
What an impressive list of offers she has got.
Congratulations.

Also well done Fairenuff Dd.

We're waiting for UCL here then all in.
Hocus.

HasSOsm97 · 20/01/2015 17:38

Thank you HocusUcas, after the rejection of cambridge she felt not enough but this has definality put a smile on her face again! Hope you hear from UCL soon

Hurrah! HasSOsm97. That's brilliant. Smile

Hope she gets the college she likes, but if not, the others are great too. So pleased for you.

MrsBartlet · 20/01/2015 19:01

Good news HasSOsm97. Does she know which she is going to firm and which will be her insurance?

HocusUcas · 20/01/2015 19:24

What is her offer by the way ?

GypsyFloss · 20/01/2015 19:46

Great news HasSosm97 . I'm glad it's cheered your daughter up! Now for decision time Smile

Horsemad · 20/01/2015 20:47

Lovely news HasSOsm97 Smile

I've just booked the hotel for DS's interview at M'cr next week. Once he gets a definite decision from them he can get on with choosing his insurance offer.

cathyandclaire · 20/01/2015 22:20

Great to hear about Durham HasSOsm97, exciting times picking and choosing now!
Lots of luck in Manchester Horsemad, hoping the snow will have been and gone by then :)

Horsemad · 21/01/2015 08:04

I'm keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast cathyandclaire!

Eastwickwitch · 21/01/2015 16:09

DS is still waiting to hear from Bristol, is anyone else in the same boat?

Fairenuff · 21/01/2015 16:27

Great news Hasso, and they are supposed to be one of the slowest so glad she didn't have to wait to long to hear Smile

East my dd is still waiting for Bristol, it's her last one.

polkadottyme · 21/01/2015 18:20

I've been gone AWOL lately ladies as all of us this end was so down in the dumps for the past week dd got rejected from UCL she was so upset as she really wanted to go there. Her rejection email stated it was because of her personal statement that let her down the course had so many applicants they had to be sure they choose the right person for the course they felt other applicants had stronger PS she was extremely gutted blamed herself wished she wrote a better PS. Its been very hard to keep her positive. But tonight she back to happy bunny Bristol offered her place I'm over the moon we really needed some positive news to lift her spirits, plus is her B' day next week. littleham Thank you so very much for suggesting dd put down Bristol :) few weeks back. This thread has certainly helped in many ways for me and dd.

GentlyBenevolent · 21/01/2015 18:27

Looking back over the finance stuff from last week - for those of you who know, having read what's been posted, it seems like for a young person getting the minimum loan something like £12K - £13K over the 3 years would be a suitable sort of figure to budget for? DD1 may very well be doing a 4 year course but as a basic starting point does that sound about right? Or does one need to add an additional amount for accommodation because minimum loan won't cover that?

Littleham · 21/01/2015 18:34

polkadot Sorry about UCL, but I'm so pleased about Bristol. Glad it was worth doing! Smile Is it her top choice?

bobs123 · 21/01/2015 18:35

See this [http://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/jul/02/how-much-does-university-cost-students-parents]] to give you an idea.

As I said, my DD used her loan (will be around £4,000 per year for 2015) for her living expenses and the accommodation was sorted out by either me or her grant topped up by me (£4,000+ per year). Seemed to work - topped up with a part time job in the hols

Of course there are always extras - set up costs, freshers week etc...
