Do you feel that detentions in Secondary Schools are an effective sanction for pupils?

Depends

OldBeanbagz · 24/11/2014 21:57

I hope so.

HouseofEliot · 24/11/2014 22:01

Yes if given for the right reason.

SanityClause · 24/11/2014 22:03

Why do you ask?

Essay question?

pointythings · 24/11/2014 22:11

It depends.

At the school my DDs go to, detention is a serious sanction, used for serious misdemeanours. I'm happy with that.

Whensmyturn · 24/11/2014 22:56

No. Makes me feel like crying when people talk about letting their children suffer the consequences of their actions at school. Schools have no consequences to impose. Detentions for most of the repeat offenders hold no fear, there's no shame attached. They are a minor inconvenience.

MyballsareSandy · 25/11/2014 10:56

Depends, at our school they seem to hand them out like smarties, which obv lessens the effect.

Sparklingbrook · 25/11/2014 10:58

Why do you ask?
