Does your child get a school bus?

If so, would you mind telling me how long they have betwenn arrival in site and registration (or whatever the first formal part of the day os)?

DD3's bus has been over 10 mins late everyday this half term Shock.

So a review has been done, after millions of phone calls from parents.

It now leaves the depot 10 minutes earlier than previously, but is planned to arrive on site at exactly the same time they're meant to be in their seats.

I'm really disappointed with this - just don't think it's setting them up properly for the day, and obviously any delay means they are late.

What are your experiences, please?

My DCs used to get in about 10/15 mins before registration. Always seemed to be problems at the beginning of the school year and then settled down. Obviously you can't help the odd time.
I would be back on the phone as will other parents I am sure

Our lot take the bus - the time they get in depends on whether the driver has an extra fag + coffee before leaving/in middle of route or not. They usually get in exactly when they're meant to be registered or 10 mins before Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2014 16:21

My DD takes a school bus (stagecoach), it's usually there 5-10 mins before registration time. (though yesterday it was nearly an hour late due to what the driver described as a 'cow-related incident' further up the road)

If it's a designated school bus serving a particular school then the timing should be like this - ie barring unusual incidents on the road (not normal congestion) it should arrive in time for them to get to their form-rooms before registration. Stagecoach also seem to liase with the school so that when school closes early at the end of some terms the homeward bus leaves appropriately earlier too.

Bunbaker · 24/10/2014 16:27

Yes. DD's bus arrives abut 15 minutes before registration.

Spooklingbrook · 24/10/2014 16:29

Mostly DS1 has ten minutes (ish) between getting off and registration. He spends about 45 minutes on it, and the route takes in a notoriously badly set up set of traffic lights that can sometimes take 10 minutes plus to get through.

Chasingsquirrels · 24/10/2014 16:33

I have no idea, as when I asked d's about it he shrugged and said he didn't know. Bus is meant to pick up at 8.28am and probably takes about 10 mins. I think registration is 8.45-9am.

nohysteriahere · 24/10/2014 16:34

Ds1 gets into school 15minutes before registration. Its a dedicated school bus.

Takver · 24/10/2014 17:02

About 1/2 an hour before registration - the same bus then goes and does another route. Dd would much rather it was later, and have a bit longer in bed . . .

Even more annoyingly, there's a service bus run by the same company which goes to the school and gets there 5 mins before reg, but they're not allowed to take it!

prettydaisies · 24/10/2014 17:06

DD's bus is often late! If it is on time, there is about 5 minutes between arriving and registration. This is a school bus as we live more than 3 miles away. It's better than it used to be though.

OldBeanbagz · 24/10/2014 18:09

DD's bus journey depends on the traffic (anything from 20-40 minute journey) but on a good day she'll have 20 mins before registration.

If they're late because of the bus (it's a dedicated school bus serving just the school), they are not marked down as being late as opposed to being marked late if they were stuck in the car on the same journey. Does that make sense?

vjg13 · 24/10/2014 18:32

My daughter's school bus has been late a lot this term, different drivers, traffic problems. Hopefully will settle down. She misses registration and has to sign in at the school office.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/10/2014 18:45

DD says their new bus company gets in 5-10 minutes before registration, but their old one was very tight and sometimes late.

We have too few buses doing stupidly tortuous routes. It takes an hour to do a 15-20 minute trip. No way is anyone going to ask to get up even earlier.

JuxtheDaemonVampire · 24/10/2014 19:43

Always used to arrive about 10 mins early, but they have a new driver who is utterly pants. Picks them up late by as much as 10mins and then gets them ther anything up to 20 mins late. Complaints fall on deaf ears.

skylark2 · 24/10/2014 19:47

DS used to. There was about 20 minutes between it getting in and registration, unless there was abnormal traffic (not rare) at which point it could arrive at school anything up to an hour late.

He switched to the public bus because of an pre-school activity which starts 1/2 hr before registration - he was always late, and it wasn't fair on anyone.

offtoseethewizard64 · 24/10/2014 19:57

DS used to catch a public service bus to school but it was supposed to be timed to get the children to school - and it took a slightly different route to the way it went the rest of the day. It was late virtually every day, meaning the children missed registration or assembly and got a late mark next to their name. The school/bus company wouldn't do anything about it.
Thankfully, he now gets a dedicated school bus which gets him there 10 mins before registration.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/10/2014 00:26

Thanks, all. I think the consensus is 10 mins before the bell is a good call. I'll be moaning. Wink

Moan to your local council, who let the contracts, not the school or the bus company.

Our transport unit are really nice, they assured me that if our bus missed out our stop again (we are a pain, but so are most people on
It's rural ramble) they would be remind them what their contract says.

They also sorted out a bus pass for DD1, really quickly, when I totally misread the letter and applied months late.

spababe · 25/10/2014 08:44

I second ringing the transport unit at the council. I am on first name terms with the chap who organises my DC's bus and thankfully things have improved and he has had a whole half term without speaking to me.

chumaniward · 26/10/2014 14:52

my school bus arrives 35 minutes before registration
