Nonsuch and wallington

Anyone else waiting for results? Without giving away details about exams, how did peoples dd find them?
Dd found wallington easier but I think did better on nonsuch English from what she's said.
No idea if she had a chance for either. Out of catchment for nonsuch so even more doubtful.

Also waiting for results, but only did Nonsuch as Wallington too far to travel.

DD says English was OK but subject matter not that inspiring. Maths tricky and had to guess a few.

We're also out if catchment so think it's probably not likely that she would get a Nonsuch offer. Also waiting for Tiffin, which DD says she would prefer. Would be good for DD's self esteem to get a pass at Nonsuch at least as she's feeling a bit down about the process at the moment.

No, it wasn't inspiring but at least doable. Dd guessed some maths but some was stuff we'd not covered so at least she did her best. The wait is horrible. So pleased we got through first stage so if she doesn't pass at least she got this far I guess.

I heard maths was more problem solving and difficult too.If it is any consolation everybody will find it tough and be in the same boat.I suspect the exam is looking for the truly gifted rather than the tutored.

tess73 · 13/10/2014 17:39

truly gifted rather than tutored my arse.
if they wanted that they could just ask for headteacher recommendations, which is what they should be doing anyway.

mertonmama · 14/10/2014 20:03

HT recommendation in an area where you only have a handful of superselectives wouldn't work. Our state primary HT has very strong views about both grammars and independents and I wouldn't trust them to give a fair view even for an excellent candidate. HT recommendation only works in an area like Kent where there 20/25% go to grammars.

How's everyone coping with the wait for results? I've been very careful not to mention the fact that we'll hear next week to DD but I suspect playground chat may alert her to the fact it's imminent soon.

What number do we think will 'pass'?

FlyingFortress · 14/10/2014 20:59

Well they have to pass enough to fill their places, and to assume that all of the candidate possibly prefer the other girls grammar or TGS as first preference. So I would say around 540, possibly more if the postcodes people are applying from indicate that they would probably not take up a place.

mertonmama · 14/10/2014 21:55

540 sounds good - out of say 850/900? 60%ish chance of a pass?

FlyingFortress · 14/10/2014 23:22

Well that is the total number of girls grammar places across Sutton and Kingston. They may pass more than that, and obviously they know how far they usually have to go down the ranked list. But if they pass less than 500 they run a risk of not filling all of their places, which would have financial repercussions .
