Revising in Year 11?

Libby50 · 25/09/2014 13:18

My son went into Year 11 at high school in September, we are looking at colleges etc and attending open evenings at the moment for when he leaves school. Is anybody else in the same position and is their child doing revision at the moment either in school or at home. Just wondering if its too soon yet. Thank you for any help.

Thank you Zoe, that is most helpful and thank you for the link too.

I have also read on the internet that if you can find out what the Curriculum is for your child this will then tell you what they will be learning about and therefore what will be in the exams so that you can revise this.

Is the curriculum the same for every school and are you able to find this information out?

Regards
Linda

You need to find out which exam board for each subject. The specification and past exam papers are easily available on their websites

Your child or the school should be able to tell you the exam board.
You can buy revision guides from Smiths (or Oxfam bookshops!)
I don't know how DD would cope at home without relevant guides/books to refer to.

My DD1 is in y11. She's not really doing revision yet but if she does get any spare time in the week when set schoolwork is done (only occasionally occurs) I'm encouraging her to do bits extra such as go through with me a science topic she finds hard.

But tbh preparing for controlled assessments seems to take long enough (and after all they are part of final grade).
