Looks good on paper and building looks great!

Anyone with a child who goes there?
Impact of new(ish) Head?
Behaviour?

Thanks.

I am sure there are MNers with experience of Elmgreen, keep bumping!

MaudantWit · 21/09/2014 20:23

Yes, keep bumping. I don't have experience of the school, but many of my friends do. They are all happy with it and their children are thriving and happy, but I'm sure you'd rather hear some first hand experiences ...

I have friends and some friends-of-friends who are very happy with it. And more friends who intend to apply when the time comes. It will certainly be on our list but it won't be first choice.

I have been to the Open Day (twice) and have friends with kids there. It was on our list.
Lovely building, I liked the idea of the vertical tutor groups (though others have said this can cause problems), and the lovely building and the use of the Library. I too will be interested to know what impact the new head makes because I get the impression that the good pastoral care was not so well balanced by getting a strict handle on behaviour management. People who know Elmgreen and other schools have said that students are very disrespectful to staff.
However, families I know with children there are very happy with it, and are confident the education is good. We would have been happy to accept it, we live in the middle between Elmgreen and Dunraven and have a very academic / musical child and felt that Dunraven was better suited. Likewise, other parents chose Elmgreen over Dunraven.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

We were very interested in the vertical tutor groups but have heard from a couple of people that it can be problematic in practise - not really encouraging year groups to mix and the younger years feeling a little intimidated.

Will be interesting to see what Head says at tomorrow's Open Day re. behaviour, attainment, vertical tutoring, enrichment etc.

Thanks again.

I know they set for some subjects and do mixed ability for others. I would ask whether this affects potential to do triple science, should your DC wish to do triple science. (I can't remember)

Bumping this again, any more views? We live very close to Elmgreen and I find some of the students quite intimidating - that might just be because I'm not used to teenagers though!

PiratesMam · 03/04/2015 18:11

Bumping again to see what folks are thinking of Elmgreen School SE London again? Apparently they have a new Head this year?

Condemned · 03/04/2015 22:42

We went to the open day and were impressed it was 4th on our list. Since then I heard from a friend that her sons friend was stabbed on the school premesis!! It's a shame, the school seemed to have potential but we are glad we aren't going.

NynaevesSister · 04/04/2015 14:53

I was impressed with the new head at last year's open day and I have heard very good things from people who have worked with him before. The two families I know with children there in year 8 are thrilled with it. However I also know a teacher who says that so far the behaviour of pupils isn't improving despite the new behaviour policies. So I am left unsure.
