Would you classify this as 'coursework'

Daughter attends special school and her 'science' teacher is messing her about in regards to her gcse.
He said that he can use the same 'coursework' for both entry exam that he is entering in for and the GCSE. She is about a level nc 6 now in science i'm guessing.
I have looked at the specs for both entry and gcse and there is no course work just this,

Gcse "Controlled assessment
Approximately 6–7 hours
64 marks
25% of the qualification"

entry- Practical Task
20% of Entry Level Certi cate in Science

Candidates are assessed on a practical procedure (experiment) designed to provide an answer to a relevant scienti c issue relating to the content of the course.
Tasks are set by the teacher – OCR will provide exemplars in supporting materials. The task involves planning the experiment and the processing and analysing of the data.
Suggested time: 4 Hours.

I am fuming, he doesn't know yet that i have looked at the spec's - his explanation when he rang me is "it only means more work for me as i have to enter her and mark her coursework"."
Also said something that is she gets a qualification in gcse after passing her entry that it will be seen as a'bonus'.

So would you class it as 'coursework'? And is it allowed to enter same bit of work twice, even tho at the gcse level she's going to get a lower mark.

There is no coursework these days for GCSE - controlled assessments are prepared for and done in class.

What are you fuming about? the teachers seems to know what he's talking about. He will have to mark the controlled assessment work.

Why do you want your daughter to have to produce double the work?

superram · 18/09/2014 21:25

I don't know about science but we would use the same controlled assessment for both in history.

I am fuming is that there is a 3 hour difference in the amount of work that she will have to produce. If he marks the entry work and hands it again in the gcse. It means less detail as she will have less time. So hence a lower mark. So i rather she did the gcse controlled assessment then the entry.

I am also fuming as GCSE syllabus takes a year and a half to go through. I want her to go in and get the C. And he has been concentrating on the Entry stuff which means low grades. A low grade is not going to help her get on to a level 2 btec. She sits the exams next May.
Before he started she was studying from 21st century ocr. A couple of days ago apart from the 2 different entry books he introduced the class to gateway OCR this week (first time he has touched a gcse level book). She is now confused.
The way he suggest' if she does well in her entry, she will be entered for her GCSE' over the phone. He said himself that she was a 'D' earlier this year.

She's top of the class and she is being held back which is breaking an objective in her statement. Like i said before she's about a level 6 now and some of her peers are level 2/3.

In her maths class, she's again top of her class, however this teacher is brilliant and he always gives her something that challenges her and gives her extra work to do.

The year above her, sat their exams on time and they had lots of homework. She has gotten zilch and started her GCSE's a year late.

I have last year tried to raise concerns, not about her science but about other stuff that was mentioned at her annual review via email and he ignored the email. Her speech therapist responded to a few sections of it but he never did.
I had to resend the email and asked for it to be forwarded on to the head, who also ignored it.
It was things like what was she predicted in ICT? Was there any controlled conditions coming up. could she do a sport link with another school.
In the end i had to cc the LEA on to a different email.
Which worked wonders!!! But i still haven't gotten answers to the controlled conditions and her ICT.

There was a school trip that she couldn't go on and i emailed to ask wherever or not i should keep her at home or would something be arranged for her. He never replied. So she stayed home and i emailed school saying that as he never responded it. Only for him to finally email but he had to forwarded it via admin. He had over a week to respond.

I have always had replies via email from all her other teachers. Even if it was during the school holidays they replied.

She now know what she wants to do but she needs the grades. She doesn't want to stay at that school/sixth form past this year. But i know that her school/sixth form will be fighting tooth and nail for her as they want her funding money.

If your DD wants to study level 2 BTEC, she doesn't need a C as a C free is a level 2 qualification.

Not quite sure what your problem is but controlled assessments in science are often called coursework, by both teachers and students
No you can't use the same work for entry level as for GCSE
If she want to go onto do a level 2 BTEC then she doesn't need the GCSE, that is itself a level 2 qualification that is better regarded than the BTEC ;
Is she year 11 now if you say she has started the GCSE course 18 months late, if that is the case and she is currently in a level 6 then she would be better doing entry level as she would be unlikely to get more than a D in core.
