Any suggestions for good but not too expensive handwriting pens?

DD doesn't get along so well with the Berol ones as she tends to wear them sideways, IYKWIM. There's another sort she likes, but they cost about 4 quid each and don't last that long . . . Any recommendations?

(I've suggested a cartridge pen, but apparently they're not popular with teachers owing to a few explosive ink accidents in class!) She's in the demented-spider league for handwriting, so biros not ideal.

have you tried this one? Lots of students at dc's schools use it - it has cartridges and comes in a left hand version or a right hand version

That's a good idea - she had one before ages ago when trying to improve grip in primary, hadn't realised they had refills with a new tip.

I had a stainless steel (unbreakable) Parker fountain pen for secondary school with my name engraved on it. It still lives in my handbag. It was about £30 I think. I have never had an ink cartridge explosion - despite taking it on multiple flights, let alone in a classroom.
You can also change the nib as it wears and find one that suits her best.
I love my fountain pens - look longingly at Mont Blanc every time I pass through an airport!

I'm not sure dd is that reliable at not losing things yet, boleh Grin - maybe worth a thought as a xmas or birthday present from GPs though, she'd be more likely to hang on to it then!

The Lamy range are very good too.

The lamy rollerballs look very nice, Indrid - refills not too pricey either. I think she'd really like the more grown up look compared to the shaped handwriting pens. Maybe I need to talk to dd, perhaps she could have a cheaper pen for now then something nice for xmas, her gps are always wanting present suggestions, so that might be ideal.

My left handed DS loves orange Bics! They don't smudge. They are quite difficult to find though, I bought him a box of 20 from amazon.
