GCSE Remark

I have been speaking to the school about having DS's English Lit paper remarked. I thought he was 3 marks off a C but they say it's 4 marks and the head of department says it's not close enough for them to send off but I can pay for it myself.

Not sure what to do.

Part of me feels what's the point as he has got onto the course he wanted but the other part of me thinks that since his English Lang was such a disaster it would be nice if his Lit could be marked up. Appreciate it might not happen.
Would appreciate some advice/views. For what it's worth he couldn't give a stuff

Get it remarked. It's about 30 quid and English is one of the ones with more potential to go up.

It's unlikely to go down as its so close to the higher boundary.

I've had two remarked, not English, and both went up a grade. Good luck.

It will be £70 as two papers to be remarked but since the school are paying for remark of three papers for another subject I am happy with two papers!

DDs school are going for a cohort re-mark
but I'm sending in my cheque just in case - so that DD cannot miss the deadline

ChillySundays · 03/09/2014 22:18

Any one else got their remarks back yet?

TalkinPeace · 05/09/2014 22:24

nope : another two weeks i think

GirlsTimesThree · 05/09/2014 22:34

We have. School had the whole cohort (unit 1) remarked and the results were there on the first day of term (I'd sent her in with a cheque, but it had already been done!). DD seems to think most went up, including hers.

Beastofburden · 05/09/2014 22:37

Lots of employers and colleges want a grade c in GCSE English, even for degrees and jobs, so it's 30 quid well spent if it works.

TalkinPeace · 05/09/2014 23:13

DD is A / B boundary so ours is a fair chunk of vanity : but the school want her stats so i'll go with it Smile

We asked for a remark in English Lang, as DC was 2 marks for the A grade and mark for Unit 1 was unusually low. School said no but we could have insisted - DC reluctant without school support as marks can go down as well as up and a C grade would meant DC could not take A level choices. Next day AQA gave a A grade - there had been an error somewhere. School requested a remark in Maths as DC 1 mark from A grade which we thought was unlikely to change and it stayed the same. We requested and School have agreed remark in Business Unit 1 because was way wrong.
It is definitely worth the remark especially in English, trust your instincts and the best of luck.

Both remarks came back surprisingly quickly. One within 2 days and the other in 5 days.

Beastofburden - don't employers want english language not literature. Anyone got experience of employers accepting english lit. He will be retaking language at college but I am thinking if he wants to apply for a part time job

Strictly, I think they do often ask for English language, but once you are past college you can often get away with eng lit. It's worth thirty quid anyway, seems to me....

Leeds2 · 06/09/2014 18:47

I would pay the £30, and keep my fingers crossed!

ChillySundays · 06/09/2014 22:26

Think cheque will be going in on Monday and hope for the best.
