Bit of a rant really. Day after results and is there anyone to talk to at college about what to do now since DS has failed his English Language? Not bloody likely

That´s shocking! What a shame.

I hope your son has managed to find the right people to talk to by now. I wish him luck with his future studies.

Thanks Happy. Still not spoken to anyone - will have to try again Tuesday.

Hope you get some success on Tuesday. I too would've thought college would have had people in today to deal with queries.

ChillySundays · 22/08/2014 23:16

Thanks Leeds. Not sure of there were people in other departments. Maybe I was unlucky

So sorry to hear this. Can you phone and leave a message or send an e-mail to ask when they will be available?

ChillySundays · 23/08/2014 20:30

I did leave a message and also kept calling just in case. Think I will go down to the college on Tuesday to try and see someone. See anyone!

Perhaps we should decide the options on which department has someone in!!! Can just see my DS doing hair and beauty!!!

Did you turn up or ring?

We found my son's college had set things on. So, on results day, he had to ring a certain person at a certain time. They were there and helpful (although he missed his grades for his offer). He was given a set time next week to call in and see them. All great organisation.

However, when we rang in (over two days) to try and speak to someone about the course content of other options, no one was available. Turns out, he has to follow system - call in next week and from there he will get advice.

It seemed poor but I guess they have to handle so much in these few days.

I'm not sure why it's "shocking".
Many staff give up a days holiday to come in on results day, to be available for the students. Why didn't your ds speak to them then ? Confused
Staff spend a lot of time in the first week or two also helping students sort out their best options - not everybody by a long way will be sorted by the first day of term.

ChillySundays · 24/08/2014 22:57

Backforgood - At school all I was told was to speak to the exam officer the next day.
Considering it is mandatory to carry on in education surely you can not get to the first day of term and not know what course you are doing (and possibly which college) I rang the college the next day - if I was being unreasonable to expect to speak to someone why was I not told that.

At the induction evening the staff made a point of saying they work during the holidays?

Good news! We went to the college this morning and they are happy for him to do the level 3 course even though he hasn't passed his English. The fact he had a good crop of results including maths and the fact that if they had put him on the level 2 course he would be spending the next year covering what he had done at school did help.
All that worrying! My nausea has disappeared as well!
I hope things will work out for others. And perhaps what doesn't seem the right way at the moment will turn out to be a good move in the end.
