How much will it cost?

I was just thinking how much does it actually cost to send your child to junior then senior boarding?

We calculated it at just under 400K....but if you add on travel and other miscellaneous stuff. It can rise to 500K.

We are lucky our dd even at form 7 seems to do good biz buying and selling instant noodles at school. So her spending money is hardly touched.

Does that sound about right. My DH is talking to his bro about going half half for his daughter.

Assuming boarding prep from yr 3 fees current about £26k a term and full boarding senior from yr 9 fees currently just shy of 35k at current rates your looking at 331k over 11 years or ops out 30k a year. That obviously doesn't include extras, trips, uniform, flights if applicable etc etc.

Trying to say or "works out at about 30k a year"

Kenlee · 16/08/2014 09:50

Hmm so basically he really is just paying little over 15k a year if we help with the other half. Assuming the average wage in the UK is 60 to 80k . It is doable...

The average wage in the UK us £26500 I suspect you BIL is not on the average wage.

soddinghormones · 16/08/2014 11:56

How much your bil earns is less important than how many other commitments he has

If he's got a large mortgage, significant commuting costs etc he may not have £15k to spare each year, not to mention having to keep that level of spending going and funding fee increases

Is your bil as keen on boarding as you are?

Kenlee · 16/08/2014 21:21

Well my DH is willingly to pay full. He does however want his brother to make a commitment as well.

I think his brother is keen but then again. To be honest I have lived outside the UK for Twenty years now so I haven't a clue. I suppose he is on a decent wage. He is a chartered engineer.

We just saw a beautiful young girl smiling and laughing. It breaks my heart when she talks about being bullied at school(school changed but still haunts her). The pressure she is under to get 100%. To do everything right. My DD just whispered in my ear aren't you glad we decided to let me board.

Thats one of the reason we are keen. Although his brother thinks day school is enough..DH said she is already at private day school. We will pay the add on for boarding...

So as DH said he isnt being asked to pay anymore than usual...

but I am surprised that average wage in UK is still around the 20K mark...

The average household income in the UK is 40k, the average personal income is something along the lines of £26,500. This varies by region of course, but that is the general figure.

The median wage for a chartered engineer seems to be £52,609 if that helps.

The vast majority of the United Kingdoms work force earns under £26500 hence the reason for the average having been bumped up by Millionaires Oligarchs and 'Thieves'.
