Great comments from teachers but not so good grades for dd

Hi Mums,

Today we received DD's end of year 7 grades. The teachers gave some excellent comments on each subject but the grades don't seem promising. I wonder why the teachers were not honest enough in their comments. Here are her grades.

Art - 3a
Drama - 4a
English - 5a
French - 3b
Humanities - 4c
ICT - 4b
Maths - 6c
Music - 4c
PE - 3b
Science - 5b
DT - 5a

Any ideas on how to approach this and improve her grades?

Regards,
Apoorna

Well, at my DD's school - which most people acknowledge does pretty damn well at GCSE - that's not the attitude. Thankfully.

@ohtobeanonymous, thanks for your lovely message and wishes ! Yes, she is doing her best in every way possible in most subjects except perhaps PE and French to which she doesn't take a particular liking to. I just thought the grades did not really reflect her effort and the comments did not match the grades and hence I posted this message. You are right, what matters most is that she is happy and working hard and she just started her journey.

@queenofthemountain, I meant to say I would love for her to get A* in core subjects, did not say "all" . My ds will be a swan to me regardless of her grades. I am not too sure what the grammar school attitude is as she doesn't go to one.

aporna the attitude expressed by queenofthemountain is that of her own school (maybe) certainly not a general grammar school attitude. As I said, it certainly isn't the attitude at my DD's super selective highly performing grammar school. It's inevitably true that complete exam grade stars are praised because, you know, who wouldn't praise that, but these are neither the only children nor the only achievements that are valued.

Apoorna- those are very good levels for a year 7!

@Hakluyt, @HercShipwright, thanks a lot for the encouragement. I meant to say my dd (not ds) will be a swan to me regardless of her grades. Working and mumsnetting at the same time leads to typos obviously :)
