Year 7-10 Grades progression? Any help?

DD(15) has recently been thinking about her grades progression and I wanted some feedback, DD attends a high standard Grammar, so her grades are expected to be a bit higher, however I want some reassurance that these are okay and just seem to be going as they should, having spoken to other parents whose darlings have increased so much faster. (All grades are at the end of that year and all subjects listed are those she has taken for GCSE)
Year 7:
Maths 6C
English 5A
Science 5B
History 5A

Year 8:
Maths 7C
English 6B
Science 6A
History 6C
German 4B (Started german in year 8)

Year 9:
Maths 8C
English 7A
Science 7A
History 7B
German 5B

Year 10:
Maths A* (Above level 8)
English B (Level 8B)
Science A (Level 8A)
History A* (Above Level 8)
German A (Around 8A)

Year 10 'levels' are approx, as it is now GCSE grading Hmm

Heard of DC going from level five in year 9 to A*'s Confused so want to know if DD is doing well with her progress, or if she needs to revise more (I hope not)

So the y10 grades are current 'working at' not 'y11 predicted' ?

My y10 DD is nowhere near these so I'm not much help, but I would maybe be checking the English. Has she not been doing an CAs this year for English? If so do you know the results?

mumtoateen · 16/07/2014 08:11

She's got a C, B and an A due to the teacher mismarking her work Sad

DS1, at a comprehensive, had similar results to your DS, although Maths was higher. He got A Maths and A English lit for actual GCSE last year and was on course for his predicted A/A GCSEs, had high marks for all his CAs.

I'll tell you in August if he got them!

Has she not get predicted GCSE grades? We would have had a data report this summer showing actual, predicted and whether on course to attain predicted.

Not in year 10 Sad
She's predicted all A's and A*'s through her FFT grades though Smile

FFT are targets based on her KS2 results so not based on anything she has done at secondary. If those are working at grades then I would say she is doing well, but you might want to talk to her English teacher and ask what she needs to do to move to an A. It may be that she needs to re-sit two of her controlled assessments.

English teacher has said she has mismarked her CA Shock
She had to 'add more paragraphs' to it so she did. But teacher hasn't amended it.
A B is still a great grade though.

DCs secondary bases targets on Sats and also the CATS they do at the beginning of Y7, but they are looked at to see if they need to be changed.

A B is absolutely a great grade, but if she is capable of an A that should be her target.

I'd agree with speaking to the English teacher.

ChillySundays · 16/07/2014 22:10

I am not a teacher but if these are her achieved grades then she can't do any better than A. Am presuming that she should be able to get from an A to an A in the others. You may have to check the english but B is still good.
Are these graders predicted in which case are they realistic? Grades are computer generated from Sat results and CAT test.

mumtoateen · 17/07/2014 07:37

Why should I check the english? Considering she has only done half her GCSE course, has exams at the end of next year and still has CA's to do, I think a B is a bloody good grade.

If my y10 were working at all Bs, let alone As, I would be delighted.

The only reason I suggest checking English is that having got a 7a at the end of y9 and the fact that it is the only B grade (even though at the end of y9 science and history were equal levels or lower), it might be worth checking she is still on track.

Because they aren't apparently giving you predicted grades it is hard for you to know without explicitly checking. And you are the one who wanted reassurance - the best place to go for that is the teacher.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 17/07/2014 11:13

Because you asked for re-assurance, and the best place to get that is from school, especially as they haven't given you any guidance re progress.
