Sixth Form - when to start looking

DTs are just finishing Y10. The school has mentioned nothing yet about 6th form. Our school has a 6th form and the DTs should get places based on their current grades but are considering applying elsewhere. At what point do you start looking at other schools? The ones that I've looked at so far only have information regarding applications for 2014.

Yep it certainly is crazy. All of the schools we are looking at around here have similar requirements. My kids are currently at a faith school and it is beginning to look more and more likely as though they are going to have to stay put. One of them has said that he would like to go to a more mixed school.

I've just looked at the criteria for the other faith school that we could apply to and they would need a new CRP form. It is very unlikely that I'll be able to persuade the kids to start going to services again just to get in to a 6th form even though they would have to attend a maximum of 8 services to get their points. The whole system is mad beyond belief.

And before anyone says "why send them to a faith school" in the beginning, there really was no other alternative in our area. We live in a bit of a black spot for good state alternatives. Many threads have taken place discussing the merits of faith schools and I don't want ot start that debate here.

..I'm presuming current schools with send out info in Y11

Lynette, that's not my experience in our LA - don't know if it's different elsewhere?

B's or above seem to be needed for most state sixth forms around here too.

At the DC's school you have to apply for a sixth form place in the same way that you would apply at other schools, but I guess all schools will send out relevant information to their own GCSE students?

Different states DD1's position and schools possition exactly.

Because of being in SM (nothing to do with the sixthform) and a falling local bithrate from the current Y11 until about the current Y1 [primary HT said receptin numbers look like finally picking up this year and next). Her school is offering C for English/Maths B for what you want to take (except Maths, everyone asks for an A for Maths).

Collage she applied to and the Grammars are asking for As and B for English, regardless of choices. Clearly they are out to poach only the best.

Thus DD has chickened out (she's dyslexic and may just not get B for language). She had a collage place, but declined it. She says she wanrs to stay because her school has a brilliant art dept. True but the above must also pray on her mind.

Personally, I think collage would take a C for English, because the chorts are shrinking and the Grammars are having to lower their standards.
