Coming to the end of year 7 . . . how did it go in the end?

Thinking of all those new year 7s back last September, and wondering how it has worked out for everyone.

DD struggled quite a bit with the transition for a long time, really until half way through the spring term, I'd say. Thankfully she does seem to have found her feet now, settled in to a nice group of friends and something of a 'place' in the year/school.

We shall see what year 8 brings . . . !

A different boy.

Primary school was endured by him as we dealt with on going bullying issues and he felt trapped.

High school has been fabulous. He is happier than I've ever seen him. He has some lovely new friends. He's a total 'joiner inner' Grin book quiz team, glee club, book club, school show, form rep, school senate, french olympics. His motivation has gone through the roof.

Year 7 have a separate little building to help with their transition but yr 8 move up to the big school and he honestly can't wait.

After feeling utterly sick last Year worrying about finding somewhere that our child would be safe and protected above all it's a real feeling of relief now.

I'm really pleased with how DD has settled in. She's made some lovely friends even though she only went up with the girls she was falling out with in Y6. Only two school bags, but that's because she chose to spend her birthday money on a rucksack for fashion reasons!

My only worry is I'm still very involved in checking when her homework's due, reminding her to do it, checking it's in her bag, chasing down the road after her with her key etc. I keep trying to back off and let her learn the hard way, but can't quite seem to see it through.

I don't think she's missed handing any homework in, but I suspect without me checking she'd miss one every week!
