How do I best complain about other pupils in class behavior?

DS1 started secondary school this year and 95% has been great, however he keeps mentioning the same children who are disruptive in lessons and take up far too much of the teacher's time. I want to make school aware that I am not happy with what I have heard and want to know more details. How do I speak to first? His tutor, head of year?

Is it one particular subject (in which case the class teacher or head of department should be the contact) or across subjects in a learning group (in which case head of year if the school has one, or tutor should be able to point you in the right direction).

But what are you hoping for when you say you want more details? You are unlikely to be given anything more than 'school is aware of the issue and procedures are being followed' as they will not give you info on someone else's child.

I'm quite sure that the school is fully aware of these children and is dealing with the situation. What do you hope to achieve?

OP is probably concerned that her child's progress is being affected by it. If she raises this it might push senior staff to provide more support or back up for the staff and students concerned.

Although I'd go down the route of asking about it rather than complaining

In my experience schools tend to divide the disruptive pupils among the classes. If 95% of the time it is OK I wouldn't worry too much. I am sure the school are aware. Is it a particular class or generally?

The school probably won't be able to give you any details at all about specific children. However, perhaps you could highlight this to his tutor, just as an issue your DS is unhappy about.

There is likely to be more and more subject setting as he moves up the school, so perhaps things will be better next year?

Scabetty · 07/07/2014 19:14

I wrote to Head of year who dealt with it. Things are much better this year.

Sorry meant to say it was a class covered by a supply who needed more support in school's behaviour mgmt. protocol .
