DS is going boarding in Sept and everything has to be labeled, they have requested not iron on. Does anyone know any other type other than me spending the whole summer sewing ???? Any advice welcome

Does the uniform shop offer a sewing-in service?

You're probably stuck with sewing in to mufti.

Yes we got told everything. It is a massive undertaking. :-(

Call the school office (before they close!) and ask if they have someone they recommend for the job. Either a local seamstress or (as pp suggested) the uniform suppliers.

I doubt very much that they expect you to do it all yourself.

(They don't want iron on labels because school laundry is punishing and they wouldn't last more than half a term...)

I think you can get a stamp of the name and use permanent ink .....

I used a permanent marker pen and wrote my DS's name on everything - on the labels or seams. It was no bother and lasted the whole year and several washes. A much cheaper option.

DH is 50, we still have a towel his DM embroidered his name on to survive his collage laundry. That's real dedication.

(My swimming towel just has black marker)

I've been eyeing up these ones but I've never actually tried them.

Teach your ds to sew and split the sewing task between you.

OddBoots I have used those, and would say that 90-95% of the time they stay on for about a year but then weirdly come off in the tumble drier.

I used them on shirts and trousers but got annoyed at the fraying name label which was woven. They came on a ribbon that you have to cut.

I have now found individually cut labels that claim they won't fray as they are heat cut.

Headof Best thing ever is these stick on labels. They have remained on ALL items of clothing. I wash and tumble every load of uniform and they have all survived.

The only time I use a sew in label is on a jumper collar as it is easy for the children to see rather than looking at the care label. And jumpers are removed daily in school.
