worried about school place after moving house

Hi, I posted on here a while back as I was worried about what would happen if we moved house after my DD was offered a place at her first choice high school.

Anyway, we got the offer in March and moved house at the end of April. I informed the LA and the school of our new address by email a couple of days after the move. I know the school have seen the email as my eldest DD is already at the school and they have updated her details as I had to sign to confirm that they were correct. I assumed they'd updated my younger DD too as it was all on the same email, however yesterday I received a letter from the school which was sent to our old address (I got our post re-directed) so they obviously haven't updated her details. Now I am worrying as I don't know if to ring the school and tell them or to just leave it, the reason for me worrying so much is that the school is very oversubcribed and I know my DD wouldn't have been offered a place living where we do now as the girl next door didn't get offered and is still on the waiting list. I don't want to open a can of worms and my DD have her place taken off her.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, you can't not tell them your address!

Is there a sibling admissions criterion?

I know someone that did this in our big city, she was told that allocation day was the cut off point, any movement after that was fine and didn't effect the allocated school.

Honestly- if you think your children are in danger, you need to involve the police.

But while I'm here, janesays- that's not strictly true. If there is a suggestion of fraud, it could be investigated even if allocation day had passed.

Thanks, I did tell them our new address but they've not updated my DD's details. The schools admissions policy says that anybody who moves house between offer and start of term will have their place reviewed. I assumed it had been reviewed and everything was OK as it has been 6 weeks since I informed them but then yesterday I received a letter about an open evening (through redirected mail). There is no sibling policy.

Err I don't think moving house counts as fraud, it's where they were resident when they completed the forms.

Eek. Then there is a chance you're in trouble. Can you "justify" the timing of your move if you have to?

I guess if it's in their admission policy,you'll have to contact them to discuss. I would think they will be reluctant to re do their list at this point. But then a school with no sibling policy would be unusual here. Good luck

It can if you apply from one address knowing that you have no intending of being there after allocation day. Note my use of the word "can". It depends on the LEA and the circumstances.

Definitely no fraud, we sold our old house and bought our new one as we wanted a bigger house. We lived there for 10 years. Our new house is still in catchment for the school just further away.

The only justification for removing a place at this stage is if the original application was fraudulent or deliberately misleading. They cannot take the place away just because you have moved. I hope the school's policy simply means they will review for evidence of fraud. If they take a place away when there is no fraud they are acting illegally and you will be able to get the place reinstated on appeal.

I have done everything by the book and informed them of our new address straightaway after the move but it has come to light 6 weeks after informing them of our new address that they have not updated the address details for my DD so I don't even think they have reviewed the offer. Do I ring them and let them know or just leave it?

Thanks all. I will ring and tell them. Just a bit annoyed that they should have updated their details 6 weeks ago when I told them about the move! I have just assumed that they reviewed the offer and everything was OK but they've not even updated her details grrr!! Hopefully it will be OK.
