Is ancient history 'A' level classed as a facilitating subject?

My daughter has chosen ancient history instead of modern history as her 'A' level option. She has also chosen English lit, archaeology and psychology. I know to keep your options open she should choose 2 facilitating subjects and history is one. Is ancient history however classed as a 'classic' rather than history.
Advice from teachers/ lecturers greatly received !

I think classics is classed as a facilitating subject - not sure about ancient history, but don't see why not. Presumably with that selection your dd knows what she wants to go on and study?

Facilitating subjects:

"Some advanced level subjects are more frequently required for entry to degree courses than others. We call these subjects ‘facilitating’ because choosing them at advanced level leaves open a wide range of options for university study. These facilitating subjects include: Maths and further maths; Physics; Biology; Chemistry; History; Geography; Modern and classical languages; English Literature."

These are subjects that an applicant might NEED to do a particular degree, so for example done expect to get any offers for a Geography degree without a Geography A Level. Other subjects regarded as serious hard A levels, such as Music and Economics are not needed at A level even if the student wants to study these at degree level.

In other words don't get too hung up about the list of facilitating subjects - check the admissions requirements of actual degree courses your dc is interested in. An academic student should be doing at least 2 'hard' subjects (google Trinity Cambridge A level subjects).

My dd did Medieval History for A- level and it is treated in exactly the same way as any other module of History. Some schools offer a choice if they have a big enough History Department. So it is a good choice.

Thanks all. She doesn't know what she wants to do as a degree subject ( probably history) and that's why trying to keep options as open as possible. Classics not a facilitating subject but from your replies looks like ancient history just counted as any other history so she will be ok. That's great - won,t need to change options for the 4th time.....
