Lady Margaret School Parsons Green - on my wish list!

Hello,

My daughter is in Yr 5 and I will soon be entering that minefield of 'desperately seeking' (!) a good Girls' school for her. I've seen some of the Lady Margaret School girls out and about and on the tube and they seem well-behaved and well-mannered, but I would be interested to find out what it's like from someone lucky enough to be on the inside! I'm also wondering how it compares to Grey Coat Hospital School- another school currently on my wish list...

Our DD is going to LMS in September and I think we'll be very happy with it as plenty of our friends' daughters go there and they've all done well and are lovely girls.

I'm pretty sure the Greycoat language aptitude test is this side of the summer holidays so, if you're thinking of entering your daughter for that, now is the time to find out about it.

I don't have kids at LMS, but it is a excellent, highly sought after school and IMO is better than Grey Coats. The admissions criteria for LMS is complex - the Foundation places (min. 3 years church attendance) top ability band furthest distance allocated was 1.3 miles, middle band 1.9337 miles, bottom band 1.984 miles - because of the high calibre of girls applying it actually makes sense to do less well in the test to get a place, especially if you live further away! The Open places (everyone else) top ability band furthest distance allocated was 0.2775 miles, middle band 0.4909 miles and the bottom band was filled completely by siblings, no new girls admitted! The open distances are minuscule, so it is considerably easier to get in if you are CofE!

I think it's notable that Michael Gove is sending his daughter to GreyCoat when I imagine he would have had the choice of LMS based on the criteria set out above.

I know quite a few girls who chose St Marylebone over Greycoats so depends on personal preference. Gove lives near me and we are over the distance limit from LMS so I don't think it was an option for him. All these schools have a good reputation locally, though I am aware that some people have had concerns about behaviour at LMS in recent years. I know girls in the school and they are very happy there.

Thank you for your feedback. LMS is still at the top of my wish list! Grey Coat comes a close second, though, but is further away. I note the comment about apparent concerns about behaviour at LMS. If this is the case, I would be surprised if the other schools mentioned here didn't have the odd difficult pupil. A teacher friend of mine has taught for years in both the independant and state sector and she says that in every school she has taught in there have been classes where behaviour has at times been an issue. I would imagine that LMS, Grey Coat etc have strategies in place to manage that situation.

Are you close to St Marylebone? IMO that's even better than LMS, and the best of the three.

Sadly, we're not lucky enough to live near St Marylebone! I've heard it's a very good school.
