physics As level isa disaster

Its a bit of a long story but hoping someones might be able to help

My ds is yr 12 and doing A level physics. One of his physics teachers is head of science and has a real bad reputation for not being very good. Until this yr we had never had him.
This teacher has not turned up for quite alot of lessons and when he does turn up he is late. He also spends alot of time talking about his brothers and what he used to get up to when he was a teenager rather than actually teaching.

This teacher announced to ds class in march he was leaving at easter as he had a new job
My ds is also doing further maths and in march the further maths kids went to a university for the day. This same day his physics teacher started the preperation for the Isa (there was 2 lessons for this that day)

When my ds went back to school the following day and found out he has missed it, he went striaght to the teacher. The teacher told him just to get a copy of someone elses notes and he would be fine.
Nobody had their notes on them as there was no physics that day. The following day he managed to get a copy of someones notes. He had a ruff idea what it was about but didnt fully understand. The day after he sat the Isa.

We knew the results wasnt going to be that great but we knew you are able to do 2 Isa and the best one is put forward. so I started phoning the school the week after to try and get the results, I spoke to the head of 6th form continuously over it.
Easter came and ds still not given his results so 1st day back after easter I phoned the school and spoke to head of 6th form to ask for the results. He told me the physics teacher had taken them home to mark over easter but was bringing them back that day. Well the physics teacher didnt, he returned them tuesday and only 3 out of 4 sections marked.
As expected the grade for one of the sections was not great. As soon as ds got his result he went striaght to the current teacher and asked to resit.
He has been told he cant resit it till next year as it to late for this year.

I sent an email to the head yesterday morning (she is new, school in special measures and she took over 2 weeks ago, although has been around since january) I have had no reply as off yet
I have also spoken to new head of science last night who was very opologetic and explained the they were sending it all off friday (today) so there is no way ds can redo it.
I asked how they could send it of if 1 section still unmarked, she said the old physics teacher had been given a 9am dead line so not to worry ( he didnt meet this dead line, he turned up this afternoon apparently)

Any ideas what we can do, I am so angry and upset for ds as he needs an A in physics for his university course. We are worried that this is going to look bad on his ucas application

Sorry its long, cut it down as much as I can
Thanks for reading

Hi op. My DD is in year 12 doing physics. They have just had their Empa (same as Isa but externally marked) and a lot of year 13s were retaking it to get a higher mark towards the final A level.

I think if he does ok in his written papers and the school are willing to predict an A he should be ok. Similar happened to my DD in chemistry. She is not able to retake the practical exam, but is resitting both AS papers. She is taking a gap year and applying this September - her school would only predict her a B and she needs an A.

I think he should be able to resit it next year. If it brings his AS grade down, it might be worth getting his school to put something in his UCAS application.
Something similar happened to my son with his GCSE Physics ISA. Teacher kept telling him he would arrange for him to re-do it, then told him it was too late. When we complained as son wanted to study Physics at uni, so needed an A. We were told that if he did not get his A a note would be put on his uni application saying it was the schools fault & he was capable of getting the A*.
