Could DS re-take Physics ISA (AS level) along with A2s?

DS is worried that he might not do well enough in his (second attempt) at AQA Physics AS ISA (the practical/investigative test) to give him a good overall score at AS level. The ISA is also known as Unit 3.

Does anyone know if it's possible to re-sit the ISA unit of the AS exam in the second (A2 year) of study, along with A2s (ie not repeating the AS apart from the ISA)?

Perhaps he's unnecessarily worried (no results yet) but he'd like his mind set at rest! Thanks.

DD was not allowed to redo an ISA. Though she has to sit both AS papers again. The reason given was logistics. I did consider enrolling her at a private college for an evening class in which case she would have been able to do it but she didn't want to in the end. She got a D in the fucking ISA but low B in the papers which meant her overall grade was a C. The teacher got the push but the damage done unfortunately. She needs A for her Uni course.

I would email the school now and ask what their policy would be - hopefully your son did better than he thinks.

Many thanks, HP. Sorry to hear about your DD - hope things look up for her with this Summer's exams.

I understand logistical nightmares for schools and boards but you'd think some flexibility was possible. Actually, my DS is re-sitting ASs this year - doing very much better this time round but very worried about the Physics ISA for some reason. I don't think the school would let him take A2s and ASs in the same year (next year) - this is one time when I regret the passing of January exams.

DD is in year 13 and does OCR Chemistry and has been allowed to resit a practical exam for AS even though she has already done the AS last year. At gcse, there was a limit to the number of times certain units could be retaken, so I am wondering if this would apply here?

Many thanks, HP and Fanta. Fanta - good luck to your DD. DS spoke to his teacher today as he, DS, is worried (because unnecessarily but he doesn't think so) that his ISA marks will pull the overall grade down. Teacher said he could repeat ISA only next year, up to a maximum of two times.

Not sure, these days, if first attempts need to be acknowledged on a UCAS form?

OP, I am not sure either. I think you just declare the overall grade rather than individual modules, but I am not certain of this. DD's school has a 'UCAS co-ordinator' who is a teacher who knows everything about the process so it might be worth it for your DS to check this with the relevant person in his school, to put your mind at rest.
