Chigwell independent school - Guru Gobing Singh Khalsa College

Hi. We are considering Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College – independent faith school in Chigwell. I tried searching for it online, but its website is under construction. There is nothing I could find on mumsnet. I looked at the Ofsted report and bbc school ranking website – both say it’s good (but not great – although nothing wrong or adverse was reported).

I would like to know if anyone has any info about the school – how is it? What do parents say about the school? Achievements? Etc. Any information will be helpful.

oddly enough i drove past there yesterday. tbh i don't know anything about the school but it is set in a lovely part of essex!! dd is starting at chigwell school which is round the corner. fwiw the kids that i have seen walking to and from the school (the one you mention, not the one i mentioned) look like nice kids but i doubt that exactly helps you :)

Anyone with experience of khalsa college on Chigwell??

I lived in the area for years and have a friend that has it lined up as a back up option for her daughter if she didn't pass entrance test for local Indy. She wasn't massively keen, it's very religious, strict about it too. Thankfully her DD passed elsewhere so they didn't end up sending her there. Don't know if this is helpful, sorry!

I'm bumping this as I would also like to hear from any parent who have children there.

I have visited the school and all religions are respected, there are separate assemblies depending on what you believe. The staff were from very diverse backgrounds and seeing the school during breaktime it seemed very calm and happy.

My only concern is that is very academic and I'm not sure what help a child would receive if they weren't. It appeared that it would just be a case of making them work harder...

My child has been attending this establishment for a number of years now and I can not even begin with all the positive things this school has to offer. Although this school is a Sikh school it promotes all religious values and beliefs holding morning assemblies for individual faiths.

Being 5th in Essex on the league tables and classed as 'outstanding' in the last foster report my partner and I decided to visit the school prior to enrolling our child.
The head teacher was a delight a really kind and intelligent man who spoke about the history of the school and how far it has come whic was evident.
The school had a calm atmosphere which we loved with children appearing happy and displaying a love of learning.
Having a chance to speak with some of the children confirmed our decision when the children spoke highly of the teachers and how they felt the teachers go over and above to help them prepare for coursework and exams. They also spoke of the the schools values and how they felt supported in the schools environment.
Since then my child has been extremely happy and I can honestly say that the teachers go beyond their duties to make sure our child has the best education.
