That's it really my DS has a sixth form interview coming up in the UK for a local state sixth form college We are overseas at the moment so no friends to ask . What did your DS wear?

If in doubt, suit with collar and tie.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 15/04/2014 14:25

Shirt and tie at the minimum. Suit if he has one. You can never be over dressed for an interview, but you can be under dressed.

freetrait · 15/04/2014 14:49

Yep, go smart. Depends on the school- can you look at the dress code for the sixth form on the website? A lot of schools expect boys to wear shirt and tie, or even suit, so go smart.

Thanks everyone . He hasn't got a suit but we can do shirt and tie.

Chinos, smart belt, shirt and tie, polished shoes.

Oooh good luck. We are overseas too, and my DS had a phone interview for the Sixth Form of a very good school local to my Mum - and got in! He is thrilled: exciting times!

Great news trulymadly , . Very jealous of the phone interview. We have a 12 hour flight to make

Ouch! We offered to come back but did stress that it would interrupt Ds's vital revision for about a week, so they said they'd ring him. I think they've had some practice, though - there were at least 5 other candidates from as far afield as China.

He's revising like a demon to make sure he gets the grades, but has grown about an inch taller just from having been accepted.

Good luck to your DS.

School uniform of present school but with top button done up and shirt tucked in with polished shoes and black socks. Failing that a suit with tie.

FantaSea · 15/04/2014 16:08

DD wore her current school uniform for sixth form interviews and found that when she got to the interviews, many (boys and girls) had done the same. It was just a lot easier. If no school uniform, then smart trousers/chinos, shirt and tie will be ideal.

Good luck to your DS OP, and hope it goes well.

Just thought, 6th form college might be more relaxed than a school, but probably best to go smart anyway Smile. Good practice for job interviews Grin.

Well, in 1976 I think I wore a nice purple shirt along with matching flaired trousers. I definitely had a very large canvas type tie with a stain from an encounter with an M&S 'Angus Beef Burger' the previous weekend.

I might have been wearing a purple tank top.

I probably draped my fairly plain sports jacket over my shoulder in a smart, but casual approach.

I got in to the school, possibly as I obviously fitted in with all the other lads

We had this discussion and went for current school uniform at a state grammar school. 90% were in school uniform, the rest in smart trousers, shirts and ties.

Lancelottie · 17/04/2014 21:43

Jeans and checked shirt.

Oops.

Expatedout · 18/04/2014 15:55

Thanks everyone. School uniform here is quite casual with polo shirt (not even tucked in!!)and trousers as hot climate so think we will go with smart trousers shirt and tie . Although I will put forward the purple shirt and flared trousers to DS, thanks partialderivative (not sure about the tank top though!!)

DS wore his old school uniform but others who gained places wore jeans, guess it depends on the college?
