State Grammar Schools in Worcestershire??

Hi all, anyone know if there is one?? i still there is RGS but that looks like fee paying. Am planning on moving to area and have considered private schooling on/off for a while. Anyone any experience at all? Thank you in advance. DS is only 9 currently so thinking ahead!! DD is 3 so even further away for her :)

I don't think we have any. Warwickshire - next door - has some.

On the age of DC thing: some bits of Worcs do Infant/Junior, some bits do First/Middle.

Think the closest state grammar to Worcester is Alcester Grammar (but in Warwickshire) Priority given to children living within 16.8 miles of Rowther Street in Stratford but anyone can apply.

There is a three tier system in Worcestershire so you might not be looking at secondary schools, they transfer to middle school at 9 and then go to high school for year 8.

forgot to add, in some areas they go to high school in year 9.

Why are you so hung up on Grammar schools? The LEA as a whole achieves above-average results despite being poorly funded in comparison to inner-cities. There are some excellent schools eg in the Malvern area (i.e. the Herefordshire end of the county).

Was talking to another mum about they have guest speakers etc in that really encourage aspiration that so far I've not experienced with state education. It's just a thought really. Plan to have a good look around some

No grammars here but some excellent state schools - Haybridge in Hagley, Chantry in Martley and Chase in Malvern to name a select few.

Lots of good non-selective schools have great, inspirational guest speakers in too

I really like the middle school system- seems a much more gentle way of moving up schools, seems more supportive, and they have far less of a drop-off between Y6 and Y7 that other areas with pri/sec have.

Will have to have a look at this middle school idea not really familiar with it. Have learnt not just to by ofsted and that what school is right for one child may not be ok for another
