Tips for helping Y7 DS revise please?

DS, new to secondary school and revision, could do with some tips to help him revise for tests. Can anyone offer some advice please?

Depends on how he learns best.
Make flash cards.
Posters/mindmaps with key points
Record himself
Summarise stuff to learn
Post it notes round room
Make a quiz. Test a friend
Highlight notes if he is allowed
Do school recommend websites or books?
Eat well. Sleep and build in chill out time!!

Oh and look say cover write check for spellings!

Get him to choose a topic he finds tricky, revise it and then teach to you as if you are the student. He could teach you how solve an equation, or how the kidneys work, or what a subordinate clause is, for example. He can enjoy testing you, or you could work through some test questions together.

this site has past ks3 papers that as a Science teacher (yes it's science too) we use as our assessents. There are markschemes on there too. PP idea is a nice one: you could look at the pape, giVe your answer and see if he can correct you.

My DD buys blank postcards from WHS and then each one becomes a topic in brief - she also has a very detailed revision timetable for each day if there is a holiday period (ie half term) before the exams eg 0900-1000 Maths fractions 1000-1030 break, 1030 - 1115 periodic table etc etc

Starting to learn good revision habits as early as Y7 & Y8 is a good idea.

Firstly he needs to find out which topics he is supposed to be revising.
Then try some of the techniques above, to see what works for him.

Having said that, certain techniques work better for certain subjects. These are activities that DS1 (Y9) has found helpful:

Maths: practising questions.
MFL & Latin vocabulary: flashcards.
History: think about causes/effects. Mindmaps.
Science: try some topic-appropriate questions from old KS3 papers and then compare answers with the mark scheme.
