I am in a quandary of whether I should let DD have a interview for a 6th form place at a Girls Grammar.

I have another thread on the teenagers section about DD explaining her situation and needs.

DD has just come in and showed me a letter from a Grammar school Inviting her for an interview ( Despite her being 17) and out of year.
Unbeknown to me and her Senco, she had sent off two applications to Grammar schools in the next county attached with a letter explaining her circumstances and how she has not had the appropriate education and has had issues at her Comprehensive. In the letter she explains how she has gone from E grades to expected A* grades because of her focus and the help of her Senco. I had no idea about these applications and because of my DDs issues , I am worried that she will get knocked back due to her age and previous behaviour at school . She has though explained both of these issues in the letter.

Whatever the outcome , I am very proud of her writing this letter and showing determination and her own initiative in applying.

Its up to your DD now, She has got to bite her lip with the biology teacher and get an A .

Oh wow. Congratulations to Ms Morry Jr!

allmycats · 26/02/2014 16:52

What wonderful news. Good Luck to your daughter.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2014 16:52

Fantastic ... sounds like you have a pair of great DDs! Smile

morry1000 · 26/02/2014 17:57

Thank You Everyone. I have just made ten phone calls to various people including elder daughter who once again knew before me (Courtesy of a text before she got back into the car) DD is on the phone at the moment thanking her "Senco for all the hard work she has done with her"

. The hard work starts "Now DD", 4 As are and 3 Bs are needed "Not Projected , actual" .
Remember don't think you are there because you are not. DD Behave Yourself in Biology Prove the "Arse" wrong and get the A that you are more than capable of. DD no more talking in Class , no more histrionics ,just concentrate until June.

DD has just said , "It will be Easier without boys in the Class" You would think she was 11, not 17 wouldn't you.

Many congratulations all round!

Biology - the trick is first to ensure you understand the concepts clearly and then - and this is how you get lots of the marks - to ensure you answer the questions using Biology language. The textbook will help here but vitally important is to look at past papers and especially the answers and mark schemes. Can you or someone help her with it?

DD has just said , "It will be Easier without boys in the Class"

It may be though - it's well known that girls seem to find it easier to do STEM subjects in an all-girls school. For one thing it avoids the issue of the tendency of males to dominate the room/talk. My DD (who is in year 10) thrives in an all-girls grammar - its really about gender differences not sex.

morry1000 · 27/02/2014 22:14

DD told her friends today ( most of DDs friends are in Lower 6th) Most of them are very happy for her.

DDs Best friend told her " I am delighted for you and shows what you can do , when you don't mess around" they play together in the Under 18 County Hockey side as well as the School's first team and have been friends since they were 6. DDs best friend also said " Don't you dare mess this up and punish you mum though stupidity and not trying"
