He is my first child to pick options so I would be really grateful if you more experienced people would give me your opinion on whether these are a good choice?
DS1 is a bright lad who works blooming hard, he is hoping to go on to A levels in science and maths as these are his strongest subjects but he has no further ideas with regards to the future so we want to give him a good range.
His compulsory subjects are triple science, maths, 2 english and french.
His other 4 top choices are
History (he enjoys it)
Geography (goes alongside science nicely)
Computer science (again he likes it)
Art ( to give him a breathing space and it contains a photography element which is his hobby)

He attends a small independent school and there are not a great deal of subject choices but the ones left are, music, PE, performing arts, business studies and computer studies. He doesn't fancy any of these.

Do these choices seem reasonable and well rounded?
Many thanks for any input.

My Ds is in year 10.
Has taken mostly the subjects you describe for your son.
His core subjects were 2x English , maths, statistics, Pe,
He took triple science, computer science, history & French as his options.

His option timetable suits him, he enjoys it & is doing well. He visibly shuddered when at his option meeting his head of house suggested art, drama, music etc.

He didn't want it then and now he sees the amount of time his contemporaries spent on their portfolio/ coursework for these subjects ( with a lot more to come) ; is over the moon with his choices.

interesting that so many kids seem to get so many options!!

ds only has two options

he will be taking english lang, english lit, maths, triple science, history, german, religious studies.

he is already part way through the german course and will take the final exam in year 10. at that point he will pick up another subject.

school say they won't allow more than 9 as this way they are more likely to get good grades.

i do wish he had another option though as he has to drop drama which he loves and is really good atSad
