My DC yr 12 needs to find work experience. He intends to study physics at university and is particularly interested in fusion. Any suggestion? We live south east/Oxford.
TIA

Have you spoken to the Diamond Light people near Didcot (?) - they may be able to help?

Fantastic this was the company we were thinking of. I was on a study day recently with someone from there and thought at the time it would be ideal for my DC but I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called. Many thanks.

I think RAL is near Didcot (Rutherford Appleton Lab), might be worth trying to contact?

The national physical laboratory at teddington has work experience schemes I think.

MN is just wonderful I wasn't really expecting any suggestions let alone 4 and the Uni links. Many thanks. X

He might want to also contact the Dept. of Medical Physics at Churchill hospital if he hasn't considered Medical Physics before it'll be an interesting work experience placement if they can help.

What about physics depts at universities - chemical physics and biophysics researchers may well appreciate some free labour and have experience of hosting WE students.

When I was a researcher (biomed), I got through half a dozen students when my hands packed in - they would label hundreds of tubes for me and run routine gels while I explained my work to them and they asked pointed questions. Worked well for both of us.

Years ago I had a summer student placement at Culham, and it was brilliant - I also did some work at Harwell though not at RAL.

The issue may be that as an under 18 he's not going to be allowed in the controlled radiation areas - making WE just being in peoples offices if at all.

I know the people in the Med Phys dept at the Churchill, and could ask if they take work experience students if you'd like.
