Kingston grammar school 10 plus

Hi folks! Ds took 10+ at kgs on 4 jan and we haven't heard anything yet 2 weeks on... Just wondered if anyone else out there was in the same boat. I bit the bullet and called admissions last Friday and she said they hadn't started doing the calls yet for interviews as they were focusing on 11plus (although we had been advised would hear within 2 weeks).... Let me know if you hear anything! Ds also took the hampton 10plus but was his first ever exam and raced through it without checking... Was no suprise when we got a rejection letter (15 places out of 250 odd sitting the exam!!!)

amidaiwish, we are currently overseas.

My DD said it wasn't that hard yet she only finished the VR paper. Obviously speed and not daydreaming is the main issue to work on with her!

My DS had a really irritating habit of finishing everything alarmingly quickly (and then not checking it) and he still got 2 offers last year, one at KGS.

ah I see, so in theory they should email you when they post ours so you may know first. At least I don't have to leap up everytime my email pings.

Yes that is what I am assuming. I keep rebooting my phone as it's not pinging enough!

My ds does the same as yours castlesintheair! He finished all the paper and said he checked 'most' of them but his idea of checking and mine are different eg he could well have answered an entirely different question and just checked back the answer to his imagined question!! Well done for you ds two offers. We're they are 10 or 11plus and where for if u don't mind my curiosity?!?!

Ds found maths hardest (tho usually strongest subject) then English esp essay as it wasn't creative writing which he prefers (apparently was 'your greatest achievement?') then verbal reasoning 'not too bad'... Come on postie WE WANT TO KNOW!!!

yes the creative writing topic was terrible. I sighed when I heard that. That was where DD would/could have shined. oh well... but I am not sure how anyone can write well/creatively on that topic unless they go off the wall and write about managing to eat a giant meringue or something !!

Offers will be sent by first class post on:

Thursday 13th February 2014 for all students

All acceptances are due by noon on Friday 7th March 2014.

Note there is a separate thread for 11+ handholding.

Reddidi, the point is, if you read the whole thread ! That by this date interviews will be completed. The 10+ candidates are still waiting to hear re interviews.

Reddidi, we should have received letters 2 weeks after the exam (which most took on 4 jan) to let us know if our dc will be interviewed or not. That way if you are not successful at getting an interview then you know. The exam was over 3 weeks ago now (although some took it on 11 jan apparently but even still we are over two weeks from that date) and we should have had that letter by now stating if its an interview or rejection. Once interviews happen (which for 10 plus it appears haven't even started yet) then we will have to wait until mid feb. kgs sent through an email stating those first letters should be sent out this week .... So we are due to hear this week about the first stage.

I am waiting with baited breath for the postman so I know whether to prepare my ds as he will be so disappointed if he doesn't get an interview! Would be interesting to know for how many who took the 10 plus whether kgs is first choice and should they receive an offer down the line would they take it and pay the 1300 fee this year to secure a place?

Yes I have read the whole thread and my sympathy goes out to those waiting for 10+ interviews.

There seems to have been some confusion with people posting in this thread about 11+ entry and on the 11+ thread vice versa, I was just trying to avoid perpetuating that.

We aren't 100% on indie either as know a lot of excellent students at salesian. Also looking at rgs, hampton as well as kgs... But decided against reeds and st georges as just couldn't see value added of all that money compared to an outstanding state school with first hand experience of a* students there who love it and are doing brilliantly both academically and on a personal level.

Well at least can be sure then not been mislaid by rain-sodden postie! When I spoke to them Friday they said they would send out that day or Monday so must be more delays... Does make you wonder about efficiency though...?

No news here either, not that I am expecting anything other than a no! KGS is our first and only choice at the moment.

No news here either. KGS our 1st and only choice at the moment too. The first 10+ letter said:

"The interviewing procedure starts 2 weeks after the (Jan 4th) entrance exam"

so DH and I assumed KGS letters/calls would begin on Monday 20th so delay hasn't been that long, but feels like an eternity when you're waiting! Fingers crossed because last Friday's email from KGS said we should all be contacted this week. Good luck everyone!

Yes letters being sent out tomorrow according to email, so we will hear Friday or Saturday. No need to therefore be on the lookout tomorrow for anything....

Some sort of explanation would be nice. It's not like they could have been surprised by numbers!
