Can I ask a question about science options GCSE

DD likes physics and biology but not so keen on chemistry.

If she does double science does she choose which two she wants to do or does she do all three but just not to such a level as if she did triple science?

You still do all 3 subjects but not so advanced.

That's such a shame.

I wish it used to be how it was in my day and you could choose.

Some independent schools do let you choose, but it is unusual. My DD did not enjoy Chemistry that much but it had to be done!

If you do triple science you get a separate grade for each so I suppose you could put the effort into the two you liked and less into the one you didn't. (not recommending this course of action, just saying it'd be possible)

Thanks. We'll have to talk to her teachers a bit more. As she only gets one mark/grade for "science" I don't really know how she's doing in the individual parts. So maybe her overall mark is dragged down by chemistry or alternatively boosted up by the other two. She's in the top set and scoring above where she needs to be on NC targets.

My DD1 would have only done biology and chemistry at gcse if allowed to. I am very glad that option wasn't available as she has ended up doing physics at AS level. So being forced to do all sciences at 14 is a good thing imo.
