Moving properties - impact on place at school

We're moving into the bromley area in June from Oz with 3 DDs and we are considering living in southern Bromley - somewhere between Hayes and Langley park Girls school.

Depending on finances and sales of our old home in Oz we may have to rent first for a while and then we are planning to buy within a year of arrival. My eldest DD will have to apply for secondary school in October, so timing seems to be quite favourable.

What are the implications of moving house after getting a place at a school? I have gathered that if moving too far away the place at school could be revoked which makes sense. How is this determined? Catchment area? Could we move within the maximum distance offered for the given year?

Anyone has experience on moving house with secondary school kids?

Thanks

There are no implications at all (apart from potentially a longer school run). The place cannot be taken away simply because you have moved. The risk will be that the LA may decide that you rented close to a school in order to get a place and that this was not your genuine address. In that case they are allowed to take the place away even after the child has started at the school. But if you are open and honest with the LA throughout you shouldn't have any problems.

if the rented address is the only address you have in uk,no problem BUT bear in mind that there may be either no sibling priority given for younger ones, or that this might only apply to siblings in catchment (this was introduced recently where I live) and that the rules may well change over time.

Thanks for the info - we'll talk to the LA before we buy/rent anything to be on the safe side.
