11+ vs 13+ confusion - have I screwed up?

My son is currently in a London prep and sat Latymer 11+ today and will sit Westminster in a couple of weeks.

We didn't do any of the 13+ pre-tests, not that I even have a firm grip on what that is (I'm not from the UK). Have we missed the boat on 13+ entries to the usual London day schools i.e. St Pauls, Hampton, City, etc if he's not accepted at Latymer or Westminster for 11+ (Westminster is aspirational, but both were on advice of head teacher). Am I meant to be signed up for 13+ at this point?

I know I should have spoken in greater depth with the head but I don't think I fully knew what I didn't know when original meetings were scheduled.

Yes it would be one or the other (abroad/Latymer) for 2014/15.

Agree with above. You have missed kings Wimbledon , St Paul's and westminster for 13, but still have Dulwich , city of london , I think a bit of intake at Alleyns and probably some others I don't know about. Your head should have had a detailed and explicit chat with you last year about whether you wanted to do 11 or 13 (I think you could have done both at westminster and Paul's ) and what the implications were but that isn't much help to you now. Go and see him ASAP, but don't panic based on a week's performance wobble. Good luck

From reading this, I'm extremely glad we are in the state sector.

You stick them in at 11 (no questions, no tests, no stressing) and get them back at 18. And it doesnt cost 10 grand a term either.
