Can we change secondary schools in the middle of the year?

Hello lovely mums,

I need your advice on something that's been bugging me for a while now. I am guilty of being this busy working mom who hadn't done any research on good secondary schools in London for my daughter. I am renting and I could have gone anywhere for a good school but it just didn't occur to me that I should do it. My daughter wanted to go to a girls school along with some of her friends in primary school but I thought the girls school did not have enough diversity and was also thinking that as she grows up, she needs to work with the opposite gender any ways and hence co-ed is probably better.

It is 4 months now since she started and I have been noticing it's not best of schools. They are not very organised about parent-teacher meetings and the school doesn't seem to care much for its children. I also have a feeling that she is finding it hard to adjust in this school and recently faced bullying by one of her classmates at school. She is very nervous to go to school.

I am now wondering if I should have listened to her and sent her to the girls school of her choice? Could you please help me and let me know if I can change her into the other school or better still, another school in a better area where I can possibly find better schools? I know I am too late now but better late than never?

Thanks a lot for your help,
apoorna

Yes - but there needs to be room for your daughter at the new school - I would suggest sooner rather than later...its not too late to get her in the new school for January which would be ideal ...

Its an In Year Admission and can take up to 20 day's sometimes

You need to do a lot of work to see where there are vacancies. Better schools can be full. You might get lucky.

London schools are pretty damned full.

But if you don't apply, you can't change.

What does your DD think of the move? Does she have friends at your preferred destination school?

Thanks for your replies ladies. I realised that I need to do a lot of work as such as change of location is quite a huge deal.

@Edith, DD doesn't have any friends in the preferred destination as it is totally new and I am contemplating the move only because the council rates high in secondary schools. The problem is ( it's my feeling though and I could be totally wrong) that due to lack of good diversity in the current school, kids from one particular community are getting together naturally and she feels left out.
