What do you buy a 12 year old girl who has just done brilliantly on her first term at boarding. Got some very good results in her assessment.

We are all so proud of her

What does she want, need?

Something practical like a quilt cover, cushion or a fleece blanket, if everything like that isn't provided by the school.

My 12 y was very impressed to get a Superdry Tshirt in 1/2term (DD1 having blagged an equally expensive one in the Dr Who exhibition).

Meal in her favourite restaurant in the holidays and or a trip to a ice rink, Christmas market.

Ticket to see catching fire (although said 12y said it was quite scary).

Personally, I don't buy my dc presents for doing well at school (or sport, or anything else they are lucky enough to be good at). The aim is for the reward to be intrinsic - that they want to do well for their own satisfaction, not for some external gift.
I tell my dcs that I am extremely proud of them (if I am) or put it to them how much better they would have felt if they'd put the work in and got a better grade (if that applies). Usually my pride is linked to effort - so not necessarily the grade in exam or score in the match.

I think its we are proud that she has become independent very fast and that she also worked on her own effort to get her results.

I would like her to have sonerhing special to remind her that although we are thousands of miles apart. That we still love her....

Hmm well I asked her so Im taking her to Tapei for a break and some great food.. .

Maybe get a few pens. ...girls like pens for some obscure reason

I think whatever you treat her with, she will most enjoy seeing how proud you are of her self motivation and the big step she has taken. Perhaps mark it by writing a message to that effect on the back of a lovely card or photo she might like.
