Wimbledon High School

Please could someone give me an idea as to whether Wimbledon High is as academic (from Year 7) as it is used to be. It has been the main long term plan as don't really want dd having to travel for long. Have been advised to consider City Of London and Channing and JAGS but they seem just too far. What happens to the girls already at WHS? Are some asked to leave at the end of Year 5 or 6 if they are not thought to be likely to manage the pace of the Senior School ? Or is it the other way around in that that girls who are happy to travel leave at 11 to the central schools? I know I will need to visit again but I do not want to end up with an unnecessary list of schools. It is scary stuff reading some of these threads concerning the selection process. I understand that all advice can only be anecdotal but much of the comment on here will be three or so years out of date so any current views would be gratefully received. dd really liked the school. Thanks.

Hi
Currently have a daughter in Yr 9 at WHS.It is an academic school and pushes the girls hard. However my daughter is really enjoying it.She joined in Yr 7 and have a nice group of friends(all quirky ,fun loving and academic).I do feel a less academic child will not thrive there.
I do not have much information regarding the junior school. The grapevine is that a couple of girls from Junoir school were not given places last year.

Girls in junior school have to sit the entrance exam along with every other applicant so it is inevitable some won't gain a place. However, if it looks as if it may not be the most suitable senior school there is good consultation with parents and students about looking for alternatives and support to give every opportunity to pass the entrance tests when the time comes. In regards to being 'academic', the school is heavily oversubscribed so vast majority of total applicants miss out on a place which means that the highest performers are offered places to begin with (I remember an OfSted report which seemed to indicate that the entire student population fell within the top 25% of IQ or some such measure...but this was some time ago). University destinations tend to be a large proportion of first and (to a lesser extent) second choices.
Seems pretty academic to me... This year was the first year all applicants were chosen using VR and NVR alone so whether this has any effect on the overall outcomes of the cohorts to come remains to be seen.
Well worth finding at least two or three schools you are happy to consider as there is always the chance that even able girls will miss out on places due to the sheer amount of applicants at various popular schools. CLSG and JAGS are fantastic schools too. Channing also good but there are many others much closer to Wimbledon than these!
